The app is the Guardian's mobile news app - not a specific whistleblowing app - so there's nothing incriminating about having it on your phone. And when you open it, even if you've already set up an account on the Secure Messaging feature, it will deliberately look as though you haven't used it.

The Guardian's new Secure Messaging service for whistleblowers wanting to contact journalists was developed in collaboration with security reseachers at Cambridge University.
From today, @theguardian.com's new Secure Messaging system will generate dummy messages as 'air cover' for real messages sent by whistleblowers. This is to stop adversaries seeing that they're contacting journalists. The new system builds on security research carried out here: shorturl.at/Et0Rf
