Hey there. I live in Virginia but visit the national wildlife refuges in north east north Carolina often.

A wet black bear and a curious Red Wolf puppy. These photos were taken about 40 minutes apart, both living in the rich biodiversity of the Red Wolf recovery area in North Carolina, USA.

Welcome to the big wide world young Red Wolf! I was extremely lucky to spot this beautiful little Red Wolf puppy. This was such a rewarding moment, knowing this puppy may one day be a contributing Red Wolf to save its species.

It's a gps tracking collar the USFWS uses to track adult Red Wolves. They look heavy but they arent and only given to wolves as adults. This helps the recovery team understand movements, denning locations, and sadly, mortalities.

As of 2023 a red wolf hasn't been shot, vehicle strikes are currently causing unnecessary mortalities. But yes historically gun shots were a major problem
