Being a musician and losing a loved one who's a musician is hard.

Listening to music is such an emotional minefield now. Performing is harder still. When I can't even sing Happy Birthday without breaking down, how do I find my voice again?

I don't have an answer, but I'll keep trying.

I will say that I take minor exception to the wording here, since in the pop culture lexicon, a "tease" is someone who doesn't ultimately put out, whereas I pride myself on my follow through

Text: I spent more than 15 years with Alan/Scribe and knew him for even longer. I knew him at his best and during his worst struggles. I loved him in a way that words can't even begin to express, in a way that transcends one terrible year, and nothing will ever change that. I'll live with the love and the pain every single day. But I'll focus on the love. That's what he believed in when he was at his best, and it was a beautiful thing. He was a beautiful wolf. He loved his beautiful friends and his beautiful family. Even if you fought, drifted apart, or whatever else, please trust me; he never threw that love away. He carried it with him. Please, carry it with you. Listen to his music. Look at his art. And remember him. I'll never forget the way he would playfully say, "Think of me fondly~" to me, non-sequitur, like a private joke. I know it wasn't really a joke. But don't worry, Alan. I will. And I know a lot of other people will too. I love you.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce that Alan passed away in his home in Roanoke. Our family asks for your thoughts & prayers as we grieve this unimaginable loss. Alan was a brilliant scholar, musician, & friend and will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him.

My grandma passed away tonight. We haven't been close since I was practically a kid, but still, she was the only grandparent I ever got to know and it's a big loss for my family.

I hope she's found peace. Life is hard and everyone deserves that, at least.
