Dark Souls is not a poorly designed game. It is well considered, part of an established lineage, and has a clear intent.

It might also singlehandedly be responsible for every single pet peeve in modern game design I have that isn't attached to moral repulsion over ai and monetization.

Even fromsoft knows this, Elden Ring does *not* play like Dark Souls. They are straight up separate subgenres! Nioh is also off there doing its own thing and whips so much ass because of it.

The only non-fromsoft souls games I've reliably enjoyed (barring lies of peen) are the ones that use the basics as a jumping off point and twist the concepts to suit their own design
