The GBA originals had little solar sensors built into the cartridges, so you had to play it in direct sunlight.
I think I prefer the internet approach.

Ooh, a final polish/quality-of-life/post-game update rolled out for Kura5 today, a Boktai fangame.
Yes, the Hideo Kojima mobile series that used solar sensors to power your weapons. This fangame uses internet weather services to determine how much solar or lunar energy you're getting.
Yep on both of those. Just not worth the energy when I can just be enjoying those games myself.

(I love how the weird route explores the themes from a completely different direction)
Crymachina?
03.08.2025 18:27 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Also I highly recommend playing as the guy first. The game expects you to play both characters, but his story feels like it should come first, as it sets up a lot of questions that are answered by the second protagonist.
03.08.2025 18:20 โ ๐ 25 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Oh yeah, I'm not disagreeing. Right-wing poltics is all about telling people that there's simple, easy and bad solutions to complex problems. But also that there's no good, simple solution to things that are, in fact, very straightforward.
The entire philosophy feels like a mirror universe.
it costs a few dollars more, but I highly recommend the Ultimate Edition!
It includes a bunch of neat side-story DLC that's normally overpriced. Game's good and INCREDIBLY stylish. Like a full-action Persona set in a universe where the everyone is psychic and the internet is a shared hallucination.
The thing is that there ARE a lot of simple, right answers!
The solution to poverty and hunger is to give people money and food! We have enough! It's easy and has been trialed hundreds of times and works every time!
The world is FULL of easy solutions that people will say are actually complicated.
This is one of those games that people who love niche action RPGs love to trot out and theyโre correct itโs pretty good.
03.08.2025 17:51 โ ๐ 87 ๐ 9 ๐ฌ 7 ๐ 0I do highly recommend getting the Ultimate version, which is normally comically overpriced but on these big discounts is pretty reasonable.
Adds a bunch of decent side-stories.
Game's underrated for sure though and I hope we get more stuff in that weird setting.
Marathon 1 has some levels designed by actual aliens.
This mod adds a Dead Space like 'just show me the way to the next key/switch/exit' button.

They're advertising that they will continue to distribute stuff that is legal.
Australia unfortunately sucks and have made those games not legal.
'I've not got anything to do with that anymore' is not an apology for joining a far-right-wing harrassment campaign that drove tons of people out of the industry.
That would be a good first step. Far as I can see, that hasn't happened.
The alternative option being to stop trading to Australia altogether. Sucks, but this is something to take up with the Australian government, not a Polish storefront that legally has to comply to each region's laws.
03.08.2025 16:57 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Oh, it being dumb as rocks isn't the issue. And as you say, Brain Damaged (by another studio) is pretty good
It's that the original Postal 2 devs decided to include Gamergate ringleaders (who are now right-wing political figureheads) as guest stars, and progressive devs like Tim Schafer as villains
I'm not saying you're not allowed to enjoy or even claim the bundle. Free is free - you're not financially supporting anyone by claiming giveaways.
Just be aware of who's making the stuff that you consume, and try to support more respectable creators.
I've seen a bunch of the big grifters - the people who were just recently hurling abuse at random women and trans folks for daring to speak out of turn - claiming that they've seen the light and are joining the fight against censorship.
There's a lot of long grass here, and it's full of snakes.
BTW, only ~12 hours to get the free smut bundle on GOG.
Most of it is trash and/or by right-wing gamergate grifters, but it seems to have raised awareness.
Remember: Not everyone pushing in the same direction is an ally or a friend. Lots of awful people are trying to bank brownie points on this.
The Marathon scene is pretty small, honestly - only about a half-dozen big mods.
But if you've only got time for one, Apotheosis X feels like the missing link between Halo and Marathon.
Not tried it yet, but it has drop in/drop out co-op too (local/remote play only) where the second player takes control of your 'buddy' character. Starts out as a baby dinosaur but there's a bunch of other characters you can recruit and swap out.
It's a neat idea!
But it's an adventurey platformer rather than being a survival sandbox. Has some of the *feel* of Rain World without being a Prey Animal Simulator (which can be sometimes cruel and tragic), which I think is exactly what some people have been looking for.
03.08.2025 15:10 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Just had a little poke around Primal Planet, and yeah, this one's legit. Kinda feels like it's at the intersection of a traditional metroidy style game and Rain World
There's some light RPG elements and crafting, and a big focus on using versatile spears as weapons, platforms and ways to carry fire
Glutinous.
03.08.2025 14:24 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Oooh, Super Metroid X-Fusion is out. Probably the most ambitious Super Metroid romhack ever made.
Is is one of two Total Conversion mods listed on the entirety of the Metroid Construction archive. And the other one probably doesn't fit the description.
Looks like Marathon (the originals) have gotten some good mods recently, including a monochrome pencil-sketchy total conversion, a reimagining of Marathon 2's levels and an expanded remaster of one of the oldest mega-mods, with 49 solo levels and 79 multiplayer ones.
Next up: Eternal X v1.3.
