Being recognized at the grocery store by someone from a dating app feels illegal. You’re not supposed to exist outside my screen. All you’re meant to do is ghost me—not pick out romaine next to me in the salad aisle.

Note to self: Avoid the grocery store during peak millennial hours. They’ve survived too much to care if your car takes them out.

To my fellow social media pros (or anyone feeling this tension): How are you navigating this? How do you balance your passion for the work with the challenges of what it’s becoming? Because if I’m feeling all the feels, I know I’m not alone.

But here’s the thing: I still believe in the good. I believe in the power of these platforms to educate, empower, and create real change. That belief is what keeps me here, doing this work and fighting the what were once Sunday Scaries (now Everyday Scaries).

I see content filled with hate and misinformation—targeting myself, my friends, and my community—and it’s exhausting. And if I’m being honest, it’s made me question how I can keep loving a field that feels so messy, heartbreaking and so broken at times.

With the world seemingly in turmoil around this political climate, I’ve been sitting with some heavy questions about what it means to work in this space. Social media was supposed to be about bringing people together, but lately, it feels like it’s being used more and more to divide.
