Hope 🌷

Never forget, in the dark hours of this year, that the most defiant act of Hope in human history is when Mary, Mother of God, celebrated the Passover of the Lord’s Deliverance on Holy Saturday, while her Deliverance laid cold in a tomb.

Today we hold to Victorious Hope

The Feast of the Dedication is a remembrance of Mosaic tradition where a first born child was dedicated to the Lord on the 40th day of life. It was the first time they were presented in the temple and an offering of two doves made.

We celebrate it now as this is when Christ was dedicated.

I needed someone other than me to recognize that this sacred child deserved more than this broken world had ever offered them.

And on Sunday, we were able to, with the Feast of the Dedication, the local cathedral celebrated Mass in their honor, as their spirit was lifted to the Throne of God.

Today I cannot find within me anything but the broken, awkward prayer of an exhausted resident.

As awkward as a tired 28yo pressing a rosary into the cold hand of a child whose story should have been so different.

Since sentience began, we have sought to make sense of that room: the room where we say goodbye, where we are forced to shed all our delusions and face with damning sobriety our powerless mortality.

Some have found this a sacred good.

But I cannot today.

Pronouncing a child dead as a 28yo physician will never feel okay.

I don't know if it ever should.

Their mother asked me to place the rosary in their hand as I began my pronouncement.

Warning: Domestic Violence

I REALLY need the world to know that domestic violence by men against the mothers of my patients is incredibly common.

I have had men assault women on our hospital campus. It is just insane. Men need to get their act together.

Women deserve better, they always have.

My best friends made me watch Die Hard for the first time and I have never felt more straight in my life than I did enjoying that movie…

I also must say…it is definitively a Christmas movie…

What exactly are you hoping to find? Why do Americans have a weird obsession with preventative medications that already pass a standard FDA process?

Spain all but mandated the product several years ago to incredible success and saved lives.

This is not correct. While it is newer, it has been in the market for multiple years.

Beyfortus is not a vaccination, so let’s start there. And I actually did read the through the published data sets before recommending and the evidence is convincing. I also take care of the RSV infected kiddos who go to ICU. So I assure you, I am well qualified to educate on risk benefit.

This might be an old school thing I inherited from my physician parents, but I get really annoyed when people try and call me a “provider” or “practitioner”.

I’m a physician and our training looks very different from other people who use those labels.

I feel so unpresentable getting ready to show up at Thanksgiving. I've been inpatient for 21 weeks and just feel like I don't know how to be human or presentable anymore.

When residency is over do you feel more human again?

This will sound silly, but there is a specific song I listen to while I cry in the parking lot on days like this.

It's kind of a tradition to honor my tears.

It's real. I hope interview season isn't going too badly! You're going to crush it!
