Badgers don’t fully hibernate, but they definitely enjoy a winter lie-in. As temperatures drop, they fall into torpor, a time where they reduce activity and live off fat reserves built up during autumn.

Expect them to be curled up in their sett from late November to February.

January and February are peak months for badger sett blocking. Each year, Badger Trust receives reports of blocked setts linked to specific hunts, with research suggesting tens of thousands of badger setts are illegally blocked every season. buff.ly/vmyhHNU

Fact: Around 94% of bTB transmission is cattle-to-cattle. Cattle are 800 times more likely to pass bTB to badgers than the other way round. Focusing on the source, cattle, is the way forward.
