You have just described a negative increase rate in your income, year over year. But if I told you that your negative increase rate was only 5% from 2024 to 2025, the rate in the decrease of your income would have improved, but your income would still be worse than it was in either 2023 or 2024.

I can’t know that without the current growth rate is. If the current growth rate is 20% (as it has frequently been in California), then a negative 10% change of the growth rate of would still mean prices are skyrocketing. But you know this.

Look again. The vertical axis is labeled “year-over-year rent growth.” That is not a PRICE value, that is a price INCREASE RATE value. Soup Szn claimed that increases the supply of housing reduces prices, which this chart does not support.

But you wrote, “Evidence from America shows that allowing more building lowers rents.” Your chart doesn’t show that.

You wrote, “saying ‘it didn't affect it’ is wrong. Prices would have been higher without those houses.” The demand for housing in California so outstrips supply that even massive expansion in housing supply would only reduce the RATE of housing price increases, not PRICES. Simple supply/demand.

What pseudo-economics nonsense. Just how much housing would you have to build in California to significantly affect home pricing? Perhaps you should focus your attention on wage stagnation—or just polling.
