Encounter at Farpoint is okaaay, but its pretty slow development, featuring a high-octane saucer uncoupling as “what makes this series different”, a sequence they then reused every episode afterwards just to be safe with all those civilian lives… oh wait. 🫢

Okay, fair point re juggling, a bad example on my part.

I guess it comes down to the realities of group composition and to what extent you moderate a game feature to keep everyone happy, and there's no right or wrong answer to that except maybe on a case by case basis.

I’m maybe only playing Jimbloos Juggling Adventure because the rest of my group thought it sounded great. I was unimpressed.

My character is awesome at juggling. Why can’t they do amazing feats of juggling without me that knows nothing about it contributing ideas from my void of experience?

I’m not still bitter about it, as you can see. 😂😂😂

That can be really disheartening. Better to be able to revert to default than keep guessing what’s acceptable in a paradigm I don’t understand without watching all the same inspirations the GM does. Because there’s not much worse than encouraging imagination then immediately shutting it down. (2b/2)

Worst is when some players are in tune with the GMs ideas of dynamic action, while others aren’t. One is told their narrative isn’t okay (“you can’t hit them in the balls, that needs a called shot”) while another can perform crazy acrobatics because the GM thinks its cool. (2a/2)

A good game should allow for either option, ideally to both be used in the same group. Players are different, as are situations.

Generally I struggle with that agency, picking the right amount of narrative without taking advantage. Some love it, but still might not want to do it all the time.(1/2)

In other news, water is wet.

In North Yorks we didn’t have uniforms in primary or 6th-form, but both secondaries I went to did. The first was relatively strict - black trousers, shoes and blazer with school patch, white shirt and red tie (with black stripes for first years). The other was any blue jumper and grey trousers.

There’s plenty of other corps being evil in Red and 2077 - in Night City. If the “Let You Down” music video/Edgerunners prequel doesn’t make you hate Biotechnica for developing Securicine then you’re heart has been replaced with cyberwear.

Had a great #CyberpunkRed #CombatZone event today in York. A four game tournament (won 2, lost 2), an additional casual game afterwards before it was time to catch the train home.

Great missions and format by Cy, wonderful to meet up with friends new and old in a cool venue, Up A Level.
