How was your last year of #Writing? What is your new year looking like?

Want to start writing but you are staring at a blank page? Here are some prompts presented in quick order to clear those cobewebs and get your words flowing and words on the page.

Beyond that I am wide open. Perhaps writingwarmup.com can help get the ideas flowing. We shall see if I can get moving on creating new again since last year was mostly expanding and completing old ideas that I have been sitting on. We shall see.

For the #NewYear I am looking forwards to putting a bow on Dragonblooded, Dwarf Facists, and Poly Fantasy, clearing the deck for something new. I have the seed of an idea to explore what it means to be called to Adherence to a god in #DancingSpheres.

Big City is in the trunk. I only got 26k words in and still didn't come up with an overarching plot beyond the characters. I may come back to it later.

Poly Fantasy needs its last chapter reworked for its third draft. After that I will probably trunk it for a bit. Maybe revisit it in 2027 with a development editor if I can sell something else.

Dragon Blooded is on its 4th draft. I am making final revisions and will be shopping it around again this spring.

Dwarf Facists is about complete on its 3rd draft. I have added the 5th POV character and have almost all her chapters done.

Shard is currently in 1st draft status, ready for group. It was the main novel I worked on this year.

Looking back at my #writing for the past year, 2025 came to 365,039 words written or revised over 323 hours of writing. 105,619 of those were new words laid down in Crapdrafts. 12 projects were tracked, 5 of which were novels. Unfortunately none of which I brought to "completion".

Tumblr user nocryptographer: I talked with someone who works in book publishing, and they mentioned they get a lot of AI slop these days. I asked how they know what's human-written, and they said that there's one thing that will reveal AI slop without error, and that's the author not knowing their own creation. A real author can talk about their story for hours. They love to elaborate every character, every twist, every detail. Because those existed in their head long before they ever made it to the paper. They were loved before they were written. AI slop wasn't. It was just vomited into existence. Someone who generates their story with AI will never bond with their story the way real writers do. That's why they may not know what to say when they're asked why did the character do this, or even remember the scene in the first place. It's something they read, not something they wrote. And to a writer, those are not the same. There's a unique bond between the creator and the creation. If your writing doesn't come of you, you'll always lack that. I keep hearing soon we won't be able to tell. And perhaps, in a superficial sense, that's true. But there is a difference. It's not em dashes or repeated words. It's whether the story was made by someone who loves it and cares about it. If the writer's eyes light up when asked why did the character do that? and they start their very own Ted Talk about that specific scene... then it's real.

Infinite worlds, Infinite possibilities, nothing gets a story moving like a bomb going off.

Fuck it, they're "the White" now.

Are they particularly powerful? A creature has hijacked their body for its own ends and "promises" to give it back after a teensy job on the material plane.

Have they gotten the attention of an outsider? They have been drafted by their new patron in the battle between law and chaos

Is your character massively tied into the plot? They are a revenant with a ticking clock for them to deal with their unfinished business.

All in all, a fun afternoon setting up the framework for my home lab.

After 3 re-images and some help from the discord, i have my PiHole up and running as the DNS for my local network. I was going to have it be my DHCP server as well, but every time I switched over the Pi would lockup. But I was able to get my router to properly advertise the raspi as the DNS server.

The themes include: The elves seeing the orcs as a disease. The elves are reborn into their descendants when they come of age bringing their knowledge and personality with them. Conversely the orcs discover how to connect with their ancestral dead and are empowered by them.

The story is about the conflict between elves & orcs. It focuses on an elven general of the House of Crystal & an orc gladiator. In the end the orcs throw off the elven yoke and the elves have a civil war. The House of Crystal is shattered, figuratively & literally.
