Probably my favourite noir. Robert Ryan is electric. Ida Lupino is luminous. The setting is grit, followed by ice.
Just wonderful.

I rewatched this a few weeks ago and was surprised at how bored I was. Robert Walker runs away with this movie in his fine two-tone shoes. I'm ashamed to say I wished Farley Granger had the violent end instead.

Truly masterful film - in my top ten. Bogart has never been better.

I'll never forget the first time I saw this. I had never seen Victor Mature do anything that didn't involve epic biblical sandals before, and he is so good in this.
As for Tommy Udo....*shudders*

Chandler's script is just pure gold dust - lyrical, wry, sensual and lethal. One if my noir favourites.

Absolutely, the eggs! Also, the predatory pacing around the bed, as Diane Taylor slowly wakes to the awful realisation of what kind of man she is with. Cady just winds himself up into a rage fueled by disgust. It is terrifying.

I thought he gave an extraordinary performance. It moved me deeply. It upset me, in fact - that level of personal anguish. I don't think I could watch it again. It was THAT good if you know what I mean.

This was me today. I was so fucking primal that I scared myself. Certain people were behaving like assholes and my inner werewolf was trying to rip its way to somebody else's throat.
But, thanks to some incredible self-control, no-one died.
I am now anaesthetising the wolf with brandy. It's OK. 🐺

I acquired a lovely piece of baltic amber today. It looks like a completely different gem from every angle. A drop of whisky warmth that is at least 40 million years old.
Or, as #GoodOmens fans will tell you, a joke that the palaeontologists haven't figured out yet...😉
