I had a great time at the #IntercelticForum yesterday talking about AI and culture in the context less resourced Celtic languages and heritage. Thanks to Údarás Na Gaeltachta for sending me and my panel Rónán Mac Con Iomaire and Jean-Marie Ollivier for a rich conversation.

We need better digital lending policies for libraries, we need libraries, and public media to be funded. We are not powerless, and it is not hopeless. Call your legislators, choose where your dollars go.

federal funding cuts to public libraries, public television & public radio force people to spend money to access stories & information. There are a lot of horribles in this parade, but the one that strikes me is the idea that we are making it very difficult to find free fun. Fun is behind a paywall.

So many of our fun cultural products are being removed from institutions that give you free access. Then this morning I saw on instagram my local American library posted about the fact that federal funding cuts mean Libby will be unable to license as many e-books, reducing access for many people 2/3

I am at DiGRA Malta talking about game preservation, and when I shared the attitude of the ESA that people only want access to preserved games in order to play them FOR FUN! (rather than serious research) someone facetiously replied “well if it’s fun why shouldn’t you pay” and it got me thinking 1/2

“Bad games have more to teach than good games” - Lane D Koughan. Saving bad games can be extremely impactful for games education.
