Shamefully, I’ve not read this before. I’m three chapters in and adore its prose and ambience. I can definitely see Pynchon being influenced by her and can’t wait to keep going through this book

Quite an enjoyable retelling of the tale. Sendak has always been one of my favorite illustrators and King even managed to tie it into the Dark Tower universe

Gave up on the Phillies game in the 7th inning and went back to reading

This one is gonna stick with me for a while. A tremendous critique of the horrors of both industrialized farming and late-stage capitalism. Highly recommended, but be warned it is extremely unsettling in its portrayal of violence

I know Amazon is convenient and cheap, but that is exactly what has allowed them to get to this point. I cut Amazon out completely last year and will never go back. Fight back by supporting local bookstores and libraries. Use other online retailers. Don’t feed the beast.
Fun fact: I recently quit my corporate job to become a teacher. I told my co-workers they should unionize and sent them the lyrics to idk i just work here

Against the Day is criminally underrated (on this list), and V. is way too high.
But that’s just, like, my opinion, man.
@durrymusic.bsky.social has been on constant rotation for me over the last several months, especially “idk i just work here.” If you like you’re like me and love a punk spirit with a healthy dose of introspection and social critique, you’ll dig their tunes.
Stoked to be seeing them in Philly soon!
