I also never considered myself as in a “pillar” since Chenoweth recommends loyalty shifts among pillars of support. I have no loyalty to this regime (or any regime). So I thought I wasnt in a pillar but Indivisible’s Courage Collective is premised on the idea we are all in pillars #CourageCollective

I’m a bit confused. I’ve been interested in pillars of support & pillar strategies ever since I heard/read Erica Chenoweth talk/write about them. I’ve kept a list of different kinds of pillars. In Indivisible’s new Courage Collective they list “healthcare” as a pillar. Never saw that before! 🧵

The mean is 650. That means 450 real protesters who were there vanished from CCC’s final count because the journalists used a vague description.

No further number of participants was given in that article. Organizers, however, physically counted 1,100 protesters on that ferry. Under CCC’s method (which finds the mean between the lowest and highest estimates) the journalist’s 200 (“hundreds”) is compared with the organizer’s 1,100. 🧵

In a June 14, 2025 Seattle Times article, reporter Daniel Beekman wrote, “Hundreds of people boarded the 10:25 a.m. ferry from Bainbridge Island to Seattle on Saturday morning to demonstrate against President Donald Trump as part of the wave of ‘No Kings’ protests across the United States.” 🧵

I'm hoping we can finish this list before 10/18 and message the journalists and their editors or news directors before the next No Kings Day protests in hopes they will be less likely to use vague terms in their future reporting.

I think the No Kings coalition released an end of day count with national totals (over 5 million) before all protests in each time zone was done 6/14. Banging pots and pans in home so they can be heard in the public space near the home is one way people who can not physically be at a protest

Does anyone have a suggested time that people can bang pots and pans on 10/18. I’m thinking 12pm so people have a chance to do it, create a public source and report it so they are counted in the overall counts for that day. I think the No Kings coalition released an end of day count with national

Not everyone can travel to protest locations & that’s okay. Barriers like caregiving, disability, trauma, safety, or lack of transit keep many away. But people still want to be counted. And they can be anonymously counted for doing dispersed collective actions (public coordinated acts of solidarity)

The 50501 movement invites people in Puerto Rico, Guam & the U.S. Virgin Islands to join us on Saturday, October 18th for No Kings Day. The Crowd Counting Consortium (CCC) includes protest data from these U.S Territories. So, any protests in these territories will count towards our national totals!

Do you know if these protests have someone designated to do crowd counts?

As far as I know, organizers don’t use registrations for their crowd counts; they try to get an accurate count of how many showed up at the event. I think the discrepancy lays in public source documentation. Organizers either aren’t properly documenting or CCC isn’t seeing the public documentation.
