09.07.2025 16:49 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0C. elegans! We decided to transfer them to a colleagueโs -80 and hope they revive. Another C. elegans researcher said as long as they donโt thaw they should be okay but weโre still really concerned.
09.07.2025 15:43 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0This is our first time with worms in this situation so weโre really in the dark. I appreciate any advice for how to handle worm frozen stocks when temperatures shift this much!
09.07.2025 14:29 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0WORM EMERGENCY!!! Our -80 compressor is failing and weโre not sure what will happen to our worm stocks at the current temp (-45C). Theyโve been at this temp for 16 hours and weโre contemplating reviving all strains not currently in use to save them, or move them to a new -80. Anyone have advice??
09.07.2025 14:27 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 7 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 2Thatโs me! Iโll be highlighting some cool work with @brukercorporation.bsky.socialโs Trapped Ion Mobility Spectrometry (TIMS) showing some neat isomer work during the workshop, and iprm-PASEF data at a poster (WP 266) so come see what myself and my lab are up to!
01.06.2025 20:35 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Finally getting good fluorosmurf assay results since I cut my fluorescein percentage from 2.5% -> 1%. ๐ชฑ
31.03.2025 21:35 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Weird question and I fully expect to not get a good answer, but when does the conference date for MAPSS usually get announced? My family wants to visit in late June/July and they go to campgrounds during their stays and they want to book early. I donโt want to tell them a date MAPSS might be on. ๐
27.02.2025 16:35 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Any C. elegans fan?
22.02.2025 19:59 โ ๐ 13 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Woohoo! Thatโs my PI (and that will be some of my data presented)! ๐
18.02.2025 21:36 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Now i need to hurry up and publish my imaging results soon, too ๐คฃ
17.02.2025 22:06 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Super excited to see someone else try my method for analyzing PFAS using MALDI-TOF with TIMS! Iโve been having great results behind the scenes imaging sulfonates in mouse tissues and itโs awesome to see plant imaging done as well. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
17.02.2025 22:05 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Nothing could have prepared me for how tiny microchannel plates are! Got to replace them in an icpTOF S2 and it was awesome. #teammassspec
10.02.2025 22:34 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0#Celegans #Worms - I'm guessing sending whole labs to big conferences might be too expensive for many labs this year. I want to highlight this meeting will be FREE. VAI will cover all costs and lunch and if people still want night networking I will set something up if enough are interested.
09.02.2025 19:05 โ ๐ 9 ๐ 5 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Collaborators didnโt like the manuscript. Redoing a million experiments now. Delayed until March. Feels like the last few months of rushing this paper for grants and fellowship deadlines out were for nothing.
05.02.2025 02:25 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Instant repost from me! Iโll log in and support it through the webpage when I get off work, too!
31.01.2025 21:45 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This is from my lab! Iโm hoping my preprint will be out later this week or Monday! Seems like with grant submissions out of the way weโre finally submitting these papers. ๐คฃ

24.01.2025 21:54 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Taking a break from designing lego mass spectrometers and made my stepdad (an electrical engineer who worked in renewable energy) a solar farm. Needed a mental break from submitting a P41 and editing this manuscript. Thank god both of those are done next week.
24.01.2025 00:46 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Unfortunately I canโt go to #Worm2025. Iโll instead be sticking to my midwest roots and going to MAPSS and a midwest C. elegans conference at Van Andel institutute in Grand Rapids, MI.
17.01.2025 16:24 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Updating 2 more supplemental figures tomorrow morning and finishing the abstract and conclusion before revising for the next weekโฆ so close to being done with this paper ๐
11.01.2025 01:02 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Pairing microscopy images with my mass spec imagesโฆ whoof this is tedious when I have 80 images of worms. Going to be a long Sunday for me ๐คฃ
05.01.2025 17:21 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Thank you, Iโll read that article today!
04.01.2025 13:53 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This helped a lot, thank you! I usually sync at the end of the work day and transfer to plate the following morning (~18 hours) in M9 for convenience reasons but I almost deviated from that this morning to do a 24 hour M9 incubation post-sync. Glad I avoided that mistake! ๐
04.01.2025 13:45 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I did a bleach synchronization procedure. Not my favorite sync approach but I needed a lot of worms for some of my recent experiments. ๐ฌ
03.01.2025 17:55 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Thank you!! I feel better about my sampling then. ๐
03.01.2025 17:31 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Also sorry if this is a weirdly basic question, I only noticed this variation since I do imaging and size sort of matters here.
03.01.2025 16:58 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Is this just population variance where some of these smaller worms are actually young adults and not yet gravid? Iโm trying to wait 4 hours after these worms should be all considered โDay 1 gravid.โ Or is this population variance in that there is heterogeneity in the final sizes of grown worms. 2/2
03.01.2025 16:53 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0I need some #Celegans help part people. I have synchronized populations reaching day 1 gravid adulthood and I see differences in length by up to ~100um. Does C. elegans grow a little more once becoming gravid to reach its ~1mm length orโฆ 1/2
03.01.2025 16:51 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Folks I may have just found the Lego parts to make a moveable C. elegans. Stay tuned for a potential build in the coming few days.
