Blockquotes in Screen Readers TL;DR: This post does not assert the correct way to code blockquotes, it will only demonstrate how screen readers announce some existing patterns. Test Details The first four examples are lifted from ...

Two years ago I took 7 `<blockquote>` variations (W3C & WHATWG HTML) and reported their output across 7 screen readers, for a measly 49 variations:

I made one anti-recommendation (and fixed MDN’s). I also explained the pattern I use.

Exploring AI's Role in Accessibility
Join us as we talk to Aaron Gustafson, Accessibility Innovation Strategist for Microsoft, where among other things, he helps run the "AI for Accessibility" grant program. Exploring AI's Role in Accessibility

Exploring AI's Role in Accessibility...
We often talk about the bad side of AI (ethics, perpetuating biases, content theft), but AI has a huge potential to also help improve the lives of many people, from generative alternative text for images, voice preservation, voice recognition, and more.

Some recipes say to poach in chicken stock. Personally, I find that's a bit much so I poach my chicken in water with half a chicken stock cube crumbled into it. Just adds a little extra flavour to the result.

Poached in water, stock or 50/50 (diluted stock)?

Sunday night satisfaction: I've completed writing a new TPGi Tutor training course, Introduction to Mobile Accessibility. It still has to pass the Knowledge Center credibility tests, but I'm pretty happy with it. It's my job, but TBH I think writing a novel would be easier.

That is true, too. But just a few grapes or sultanas can kill a dog.

Some fruits are fine: apples, various berries, melon, bananas, mango - but grapes in any form cause kidney failure and, in sufficient amounts, death.

Grapes in any form. Deadly.

I would guess that also extends to having conversations with the thought leader and turning those into articulate, well-formed writing.

One of the things I appreciate about Bluesky is that it has brought back together (some of) the accessibility folks who helped make Twitter such a great space for accessibility learners circa 2020 to 2022. Seeing some of these folks show up here has been great. Like getting the gang back together.

The "kids" version at least has gone beyond Back to the Future to become a cultural reference in itself, used in lots of contexts. No problemo.

So Australia. Channel 7 has to switch from the cricket to the news. Two South Australian batters in Adelaide Test, 50,000 people, one batter is on 99. Channel 7: "The news can wait". Head scores his century. Classic. #AUSvIND #cricket #AustraliaAllOver
