These cruel benefit cuts will rob security from so many โ€“ but Labour will lose something crucial too | Frances Ryan The worst reforms since George Osborne will teach voters that politicians really are all the same. Is it worth it? asks Guardian columnist Frances Ryan

โ€œThis is austerity dressed up as reform, where the government cuts the money disabled people need to live on in order to balance the books, while claiming itโ€™s all being done to help them.โ€

Labour could tax the super-rich to end poverty, build social housing and fix our NHS.

They are choosing to go after the worst-off instead.

For a while, many people didnโ€™t know what this government stood for. They do now: tough choices for the poor, endless money for war.

Jeremy Corbyn: Keir Starmer says there's no money - I don't believe him The government cites 'difficult choices' when they are harming the most vulnerable, but increasing defence spending is apparently easy.

Why is it that "tough choices" are always about harming the poor and disabled, and never about making the very wealthiest pay their fair share?

The Government is planning to unveil more than ยฃ6 billion of welfare cuts that will see even people with extreme disabilities lose money.

None of this is necessary. Billions could be raised by taxing the super-rich fairly.

Labour are choosing to punish the most vulnerable.

There is a shameful tradition of demonising disabled people. Why is Labour reigniting it? | Frances Ryan Ministers run away from a wealth tax and then concoct a punitive benefits system. They have made that choice and itโ€™s immoral, says Guardian columnist Frances Ryan
