3. Why is this important? There are many reasons, including amnesia about the crimes of the Matanzima brothers and the growing nostalgia for “when things worked in Transkei”.

Our history of struggle is focussed on the “big men” and “their big moments” women’s experiences and bravery are erased.

2. Unfortunately, because of space considerations, I reduced my comment about George Matanzima to two sentences. Hopefully, I will be able to publish the longer version as an essay. For now, I just want to share some of what I cut out. Please read what’s in the 2 photographs.
