Specifically wondering how much of it Trump's own government layoffs being reported late, companies paying people for a few weeks before they start claiming unemployment, small businesses that use smaller payroll companies or do it themselves, etc.

I know that they use a lot of different data sources to build the jobs numbers and some of them are lagging indicators (and that there have always been revisions), but I'd love for someone who really understands it to explain what kind of jobs or employers show up in the trailing indicators.

The Press Was Not Impressed The appearance of military uniforms on White House staff has seemed too threatening to please the public so except during wartime they are avoided in favor of less fanciful dress,...

That was a little before my time, but I looked it up and it kills me that they donated the uniforms to a high school marching band and that's exactly what they look like.

Honestly, if 2025 me showed up 10 years ago and started talking about what is verifiably, undisputedly going on in the US, 2015 me would have probably had him kept somewhere for his own safety.

Also, billionaires time when they recognize income based on the tax rate they're going to pay and are probably going to repatriate or recognize a lot of money while the rates are lower.

Inflation and the wealth increase of the top 1/10 of a percent could explain a lot of that kind of increase, but if they're citing something without sourcing the data, there's a good chance that they're either intentionally misunderstanding something or just making it up.

Unfortunately, the whole thing is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better (Texas and Missouri, at least, see the opportunity to gerrymander extra seats and California and others are likely to retaliate.)

What Iowa does with its statehouse would work great for allocating the districts and I like the idea of each state senate seat having two state rep districts contained in it.

I definitely like the idea of either doing a fair algorithmic redraw based on contiguous, compact districts or lumping a bunch of districts together, doing ranked choice voting and doing a proportional share with at-large members collectively representing the larger district.

Seeing a possible endgame as such:
- Both sides gerrymander the bejeezus out of the election
- We have a wave election, Republicans get too greedy and wind up losing a bunch of R+5 to R+10 seats and blame it on the gerrymandering
- Congress finally votes to get rid of it.

5 court cases that could derail Trumpโ€™s tariffs One of the critical proceedings challenging Trump's tariff use began last week. Judges sounded skeptical of the administration's arguments.

Agreed people should be screaming about it more. There are 5 cases working through the courts.

- 2 initial rulings favoring the plaintiffs stayed at the appellate level
- 2 moved to different courts (jurisdiction)
- 1 awaiting resolution of other cases

I want every Democrat to make this point that the Trump agenda is wildly unpopular and going to hurt a lot of people in red Congressional districts but GOP members of Congress are always just going to rubber stamp it and maybe issue a non-binding complaint instead of making them fix it.

Hating that my first thought here was "hypothetically, how many outs would it be if the pitcher just threw to home and the catcher stepped on the bag"

Also, this could backfire in two ways. If they're just redacting but the original documents are available, they've just given any investigator a handy index on where to start looking.

If the documents are gone, it means the documents existed and were intentionally destroyed.

That's something that a Congressional committee could ask about or someone could just leak to a reporter without harming any of the victims.

Not sure how many of those agents came across something Trump related, but there are probably a good number of FBI agents who are in a position to leak "I don't know exactly how many times Trump appeared in the files, but when I logged one, there were already X instances there."

04.08.2025 14:04 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Thinking that they just had a thousand FBI agents go over 100,000 pages of Epstein evidence (that's all the evidence, not just the Trump stuff), identify where Trump's name appeared, redact it and log where the mentions were in a centralized Sharepoint document...

Is he actually going to pay it, or is he going to do the whole "deposit it into a corporate shell, take low-interest loans against it and deduct the interest" thing?

I've seen a lot of designers put a pot filler over the range and thought it would be marginally useful, but they don't look like that. But at least someone can keep an eye on dinner while...simultaneously doing their laundry and dropping heat.

It isn't lost on me that it's almost certain to hit overruns and the eventual amount would have easily covered the Federal funding portion of NPR and PBS and as a taxpayer, I'm trading Tiny Desk and Big Bird to see how many gaudy fake gold plinths they can stuff into an airplane cabin.

Beyond all the illegality, it's also duplicate spending, as Boeing is already building two planes to be Air Force One and these will essentially be a gift to Trump (or his "presidential library") so we're wasting that money for maybe a year of government use.

I do appreciate that someone has taken time out to at least document it somewhat, but a lot of this is an attempt to monetize something and stretch out a one minute answer into something over 8 minutes so they can stuff two ads into it and a ton of self promotion.

This is the single biggest thing I hate about finding answers to obscure tech problems -- what would have been a bunch of screenshots and possibly code that could have been copied has been replaced by YouTube stuff that takes forever to get to the point.

I hate them all for a wide variety of reasons, but in his case, it's mainly the empty vessel toady thing. They're all there because they're willing to blindly enact Trump's agenda and they're all out of their depth, but he's an especially empty suit.

And if they DO fight this, every university needs to lock arms and stand with them.

That's exactly it. They're on the right side of it and are the Supreme Court justice factory. Concede nothing, fight it tooth and nail, win in court and know that this is the perfect rainy day to use some of that money to bridge the shortfall of reduced grants and denied foreign student visas.

One more thing -- we built out our attic and someone suggested taking a ton of pictures before they drywalled so we would know where all the plumbing and wiring runs were.

Not really stuffed, but it IS heavy on the cheese (brick, not mozzarella) and the sauce is spooned on top of it. And there's also cheese that basically goes down the sides, hits the hot pan and gets toasted and crispy. It's excellent.
