Oh, to have been a fly on the wall when Molly Ivins was writing for the Minneapolis Tribune!

The women's team declined it and I'm very proud of them.

Also, mad props to whoever came up with CTRL-SALT-DELETE in a previous year.

We did it, people!

Honestly wondering what the other 28% of election prosecutions were. Did they arrest people for campaigning within 100 feet of a polling place or something? Just thinking that not a whole lot of things fall into that very specific category.

Whelp, joke's on them. More cold McDonalds hamburgers and fries for the men's team and the potential for a rapid, unscheduled disassembly of their trophy by JD Vance, I guess.

Seriously, thanks to the US women for doing the right thing.

It'll take years to make the improvements, the detention center and any revenue from the rent will never pay the town the cost of the improvements and the Democrats will immediately shutter it as soon as they take over, probably in 2029.

But even if an elected official doesn't have a moral problem with Trump putting a concentration camp in their town, there are political arguments to be made, particularly because local taxes will go up to pay for improving water and sewer to accommodate the higher population...

In his case, I'm glad to see that it isn't all economics and that he genuinely seems to want no part in having the federal government build a concentration camp with thousands of people with 50 people sleeping in bunk beds in cells partitioned off by large chainlink fence cages.

Reaching the conclusion that any time I know the name of a judge, it's either someone from the DC circuit I know because they're working on a million cases or someone from the judicial meth lab that is the Fifth Circuit auditioning for the next Supreme Court spot.

Sen. Ossoff, Mayor Keener Push Back on Reported Plans to Build ICE Detention Facility in Social Circle, Ga. – U.S. Senator for Georgia Jon Ossoff

Glad to see the mayor of Social Circle going on record as opposed, pointing out (correctly) that the town's water and sewer infrastructure isn't built for something that would effectively triple their population. Zoning and permits are a great way to fight them.

I really appreciate the honest brokers pointing out "yeah, definitely not a fan of the guy, but that's misleading/out of context/a deepfake" or whatever. Not a Newsom fan and being on the wrong side of trans issues is a dealbreaker for me, but being on the side of truth benefits everyone.

I don't want Newsom to be our 2028 candidate and I really hope we choose our eventual nominee based on an honest assessment of their strengths, weaknesses and actions instead of refusing to reject misinformation if it fits our narratives.

I keep thinking of how often a Facebook group would degrade into someone posting something of Biden that was an obvious fake or deliberately misleading edit. I'd point it out and the response was inevitably "OK, but that's definitely something he WOULD have done" and we need to be better than that.

[Slowly walks out onto the ICE. Both cankles immediately suffer catastrophic blowouts as soon as he has to stand up straight to avoid doing whatever the Trumpian equivalent of a split is.]

Also if that video was actually to scale, if he did successfully get onto the ice, he'd trip over his own tie

I'm in IT and...same. We're headed into an environment where development is going to be people who can crank the most code out using IT and a HUGE amount of it is going to be absolute crap that makes it through quality assurance and I'm glad I won't be around to have to clean up the mess.

Want Albert Einstein on your side? It costs $20 million The long-dead scientist has found anotherΒ life as a mascot of the software company's artificial intelligence features.

Thinking that Salesforce licensed the rights to use Einstein for its AI, stats and business intelligence stuff. Not thrilled about Einstein's likeness being used for AI and intrusive data gathering, but they at least licensed it. Wondering if this group did. www.seattletimes.com/business/sal...

Noting that most of these warehouses were built to hold a lot of stuff but definitely weren't built to handle the needs of feeding or providing water, power and sewerage needs for thousands of people and there are also valid logistical reasons to stop them from being repurposed as makeshift prisons.

If there's anything I see as encouraging, it's a lot of these small towns, many of which otherwise *pulse* bright red, deciding they don't want to be the home of a concentration camp and using zoning, permits and infrastructure constraints to stop them or at least slow them down indefinitely.

The thing that I keep going back to is "who you are and what you're doing now is who you would have been in Germany in the 1930's" -- a lot of people blindly following the president, but even more ignoring it or deciding it doesn't affect them enough to actively oppose it.

Definitely, especially because the people they fired were generally talented people with a strong resume who found other work instead of waiting in limbo for a year or more while the court hashed it all out.

23.02.2026 16:01 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I completely understand that it all needs to be briefed and litigated to carefully address the give and take between authority granted to the executive and congress's constitutional taxation authority without opening a further can of worms, but leave the status quo in place while you hash it out.

The powers extended to a president are clearly there to allow a fast response to a pressing military event or disaster, not because said president created a fake emergency as a pretext to get around the guardrails.

23.02.2026 15:39 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The thing that I hate the most is that all of this stuff fails open. I completely understand that the court feels the need to take a deep dive into IEEPA, but it's crazy to me that the default is "just stay the TRO/preliminary injunction and let the power grab continue until we get around to it."

I could even understand if some of them introduce legislation that will never pass a 60-vote Senate threshold just so he can save face. None of them really WANT tariffs, but they're just terrified of being put on blast before the midterms, but not even a peep out of people who aren't running.

Always wondering if this is the thing where GOP members of Congress are going to say "yeah, the Supreme Court was pretty clear on this and you're going to need to let it go", but it's always crickets.

I do that with our dog -- kneel next to her, look at the non-existent threat and give her a few head scritches -- and every time she glares at me like "citizen, why must you insist on obstructing justice?"
