Here’s the thing. The front notes of it are licorice-ish, like Sambuca/arak/ouzo (which I genuinely like.) But the finish is pure gasoline.

Unlike other people who leave Congress in the middle of a term, she doesn't seem to have anything lined up (TV gig, college president, head of a PAC, speaking circuit) and wouldn't be an ideal lobbyist. She's notably already very rich, though.

The one piece of value she had for Republicans was staking out the far extreme of the Overton window in a safe seat (e.g. If you think YOUR rep is crazy, it pales in comparison to someone who fully believes forest fires are started by Jewish Space Lasers.

I remember that about 15 years ago, both Marriott and Hilton thought it was a good policy to call your room 15 minutes after you checked in to ask if everything was good with the room and it took about 4 months of every frequent traveler saying β€œcan you not” before they stopped.

YouTube video by Startup Archive Steve Wozniak tells the founding story of Apple and how he invented color on the computer

But beyond that, he always seemed like a guy who got into tech to see how far he could push the technology and hack things. Love the story about how he came up with the idea for color computing.

I love that his particular brand of eccentricity is buying sheets of two dollar bills from the US Treasury, making them into perforated pads and then detaching them to pay for purchases and leave some with tips. Fun and harmless.

I'd be very interested in a breakdown of the charges by
- Felonies or violent misdemeanors
- Other misdemeanors
- Resisting Arrest/Impeding a Federal Officer
- Traffic and other ticketed violations

My guess is they're charging Resisting Arrest every time an agent remembers to yell "STOP RESISTING"

Honestly wondering if any campaigns have mapped precinct votes from 2018 onto current districts and taken the changes in college-educated suburbanites and polling of Latinos into account. Because a lot of those R+8 seats would be in play if the election was today.

There's still a year before the midterms, but he's clearly losing his grip and it doesn't look like he's going to be able to pull the nose up in time. Wondering if Congressional/Senate campaigns are going to materially break from the administration or go over the cliff with them.

The Trump administration is going to try to label most or all of the file as being part of an "ongoing investigation" that he desperately launched last week. People don't buy it, especially after every member of both houses of Congress except one voted to release the full file...

I'd love to be a fly on the wall of a GOP congressional campaign in even a marginally contestable district (let's say R+8ish) as they realize they're looking over a cliff and they know Trump is probably going to commute Maxwell's sentence and the worst of the Epstein file has yet to come out...

We don't have Puck as Transportation Secretary, but if you remember back to the San Francisco season of The Real World, Rachel Campos made out with Puck and she's now a Fox Host and married to Sean Duffy, so this timeline remains undefeated.

I'm in Illinois and one of my Senators (Durbin) and my Congresswoman (Jan Schakowsky) are retiring. Both have had outstanding careers and I'm very glad they're passing the torch now.

In this case, and almost every other, the seats aren't really all that competitive and the person who replaces them generally has the same views and the main difference is more vigorous representation by someone unencumbered by age and health concerns.

I keep thinking of Barbara Boxer who retired in 2016 at the age of 77. Still sharp, would have won easily. Retired and passed the torch to Kamala Harris.

I can't imagine why any elected official wouldn't want to just retire with their health and hang out with their grandkids.

Nope. 160 miles away. That said, like a lot of legislation, the people drafting it put in language that allows the executive branch to expand it in extraordinary circumstances. I don't know if anyone has pushed back on this judicially, but if they do, DHS can just unilaterally expand it.

I can only imagine how awful this is going to be when the administration has openly put the call out for "deportation judges" whose main goal is going to be to rubber stamp every deportation and not push back on obvious abuses.

A week inside the opaque court where CT immigrants learn their fate The courtroom often resembles an assembly line, with many cases taking less than five minutes.

This article was an eye-opener in how hard it is for immigrants to navigate the system and how easy it is for someone to have a visa expire or miss a hearing by having an out of date address on file with one of the agencies. www.ctinsider.com/news/article...

Also hating that, even when the DOJ shows its own ass like this, there's still a ton of cost to the defendant and none of the oversight mechanisms (including Congress) have pushed back on it at all.

Glad it's backfiring so spectacularly and the case itself is likely to be dismissed before they even get to the trial, but it's disgusting that such a thin case is even being brought after an entire AUSA office initially noped out of it.

TBH, it wouldn't surprise me if it's one of the things they're planning to dump into the Thanksgiving news void. Wouldn't surprise me if he pardons Diddy either this weekend or along with Maxwell to get people talking about literally anything else.

I also think that there are going to be a lot of them prior to that time -- he's definitely planning on pardoning Maxwell and he's been issuing a flurry of ill-advised pardons to normalize it and soften the ground so when he pardons Maxwell the story will go away in a few days...

I have no artistic talent, but there's just something incredibly cool about oil paints on canvas as a medium. Might be just that I watched a lot of Bob Ross as a kid, but there's so many dimensions to what someone can do to control shine, depth, texture and color and imply motion.

Ugh. Wondering how we fix this part of it -- the existing system (specific administrative judges who specialize in immigration law covering immigration issues) makes sense on paper, but in practice, the pipeline from gov't immigration prosecutor to immigration judge means defendants get railroaded.
