Working on Act 2 edits for my retro slasher.

It's going really well.

But we're only like 2 hours into what will probably be another 15 hour editing session.

Ask me how I am in hour fifteen. 😅

Those ideas that go, "Psst...come here. Let me talk to you for a second."

And then fifteen hours later, you're still working on updates for that idea.

That book is just a bunch of plot twists in a trenchcoat. 😂

And I love it. 😍

Now, moving onto something else, because I burned out on that idea...badly.

Reading a novel that is VERY similar to my main series, and I'm absolutely loving it. 😍

You might think, "Aren't you tired of this type of story after working on a similar one for 5+ years and putting something like 10k+ hours of work into it???"

Me:

It's crazy how that happens.

The least sexy part of any process is organization.

Every couple of days I have to set several hours just to organize the mess I leave behind, because it slowly starts to impact my progress.

And I think it's me but it's that the "organization" I started with has broken down.

What's funny is that the genre I dream in is never the genre I actually write in.

Even now that I'm exploring more genres, and my subconscious has ample to choose from, it took a complete left turn and went with: a dual-timeline, crime mob narrative (Godfather meets Sleepers).

Um, brain, that is--

Fun Fact: Sometimes, I dream fully formed novels that come out of nowhere. 😴

Last night was one of those nights.

And this time, I outlined the dream as best as I remembered it and saved it!

It would be wild if I published a novel created entirely by my subconscious one day. 😂

I'll be starting the first draft of my contemporary romance novel today. ღ

I mean, I found ONE notepad doc with the barest of notes. But I remember developing the story far more????

There were scenes, quirky dialogue, and a major expansion of the plot with key set pieces.

Or....was that all in my head???? And I never put it down on paper????

Story math is my favorite math.

Me, finding a place to add yet another crime fiction thriller idea to my compendium of crime fiction thrillers. 😂

I'm falling in love with this kind of meta-humor spin that you can add to literally any story in any genre, and it results in a story that feels a lot fresher. You can still hit all the genre beats, but the characters are more self-aware, which adds a really fun comedic angle.

Sometimes, I just feel like complaining. 😅

Day 2 of working on a big project. And also headache #2.

I always get headaches when I really push myself intellectually. 😂

My brain is like, "I am too small for this shit! Slow it down! Slow it down!"

And I never listen 😏, so then it just bullies me with pain until I stop.

It's amazing how many times I tell myself, "Whoa, can you just...chill???" throughout the day.

I have seen so many writers waste years + thousands of hours building modest platforms to market their books only to see almost no real sales results. Marketing my books this way always makes me anxious.

Then I remember: Sure, I can do THAT. Or...I can just write MORE books. I choose more books! 😁
