TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

The 14th Amendment doesn’t mince words — birthright citizenship is a constitutionally protected right.

We’re fighting at the Supreme Court against President Trump’s attempt to end birthright citizenship.

Is it a hopeful film?
LP: I don’t know if “hope” is the word. All of my films have protagonists that are getting under the skin of power... That offers the idea that it’s possible that an individual can change how we understand the world. That’s a powerful message when people are feeling despair.

Federal judge: National Guard deployment in DC is ‘unlawful’ The 2,300 Guardsmen aren’t headed home just yet, though.

A federal judge ruled the Trump administration had “exceeded the bounds of [its] authority" in deploying the D.C. National Guard, and lacked the authority to call up out-of-state Guardsmen to patrol in D.C.

What does this mean? Don't miss @maustermuhle.bsky.social's reporting:

National Guard members do not want to be used as political props. They want to be home with their families. The only person who wants them here is Trump.

Police killed three people in DC last week and now this. When will this administration stop escalating and putting people in harm's way?
