Biggest commitment to a 3 second joke I've ever seen

We’ve zoomed in on a detail of a child’s drawing done in a striking combination of felt tip and airbrush markers. In the background, a cloud-like purple shape is lined in burgundy. Above it hovers a royal blue shape with a medium brown base that I was told is a guitar, but to my eyes looks very much like a phallus. It truly is the most phallic phallus that ever phallused - I cannot overstate this. I have, of course, immediately taped it to the fridge.

Nine stroopwafels, a vegan version of a Dutch treat consisting of a thin waffle sliced in half and filled with a mixture of margarine, sugar sirup and cinnamon, laying on a too old plastic cutting board with a sheet of parchment paper on top. How long will they remain there? Until approximately 10 minutes after my kids get home. How long will my sense of victory and connection to the homeland remain? Probably also about 10 minutes.

A hand (mine, if you must know) holding a nibbled-on stroopwafel to show off the evenness of the layer of filling. It is very even indeed. Not pictured is the smell of cookie, caramel and cinnamon, nor the comforting warmness of the fresh waffle.

My first attempt at making (vegan) stroopwafels! Cutting them isn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be. Not eating them all right now, on the other hand, is.

A silver coloured gravy ladle is perfectly, delicately, tenderly cradling an egg. From this angle, the egg looks perfectly round, its matte shell a lovely contrast with the shiny nest around it.

We see the egg and ladle from the side now, proudly held up by a hand whose owner stopped getting gel manicures not that long ago and is in the middle of growing out the damage. We sense the photographer’s satisfaction at the two objects fitting together perfectly from this second angle as well, as if made for each other. Soon, the ladle will be in the dishwasher and the egg will be cracked and eaten, this moment but a pleasant memory. But for now, all is right with the world.

Sure, the world is pretty terrible right now, but at least I got to enjoy my egg fitting perfectly on this ladle today.

I like that kid.
