The game isn’t cruel because it’s hard.

Figuring out the reason I’m forming a deep connection to Darkest Dungeon is that the game understands what chronic suffering teaches early; **survival doesn’t mean escape. It means returning anyway**
That’s what living with chronic illness and pain is like on the daily.

Got one good run in Darkest Dungeon, then my body said “nope.”
That’s the thing about chronic pain, you don’t schedule it. You adapt. Sometimes that looks like one solid roguelike run and a nap.

Why have roguelikes become my favourite genre?
Living with chronic pain means everything in my life is stop-start, bursts of effort, forced rest, repeat. Roguelikes mirror that cycle. One run of Hades, Cult of the Lamb, or Curse of the Dead Gods fits neatly into a rest window.

Wife told me this morning; "You need to walk her..." and not referring to our big dog, but our youngest child. "...She's bored and has exess energy".
So, given its almost 40°c at 9am, i got the kiddo to do some Just Dance this morning, seemed to help.

The best gaming guilds were always the smaller, tightnit groups that actually worked together, they had a true feeling of comradery and warmth.
Today it seems like every MMO is monopolised by a key few guilds that are over full with strangers who have no real interest beyond getting what they need.
