Last week we practiced possession in Spanish 2 (girlβs desk -> desk of the girl) via a slideshow of prompts and mini whiteboards and I said βkeep track of your points!β They were SO FOCUSED. Then winners at each table relaxed while others put away suppliesβ¦everyone REALLY won in language learning π

I do not have one for out loud usage, but almost all assignments from week 1 onward in all levels require written TL usage (with scaffolded questions and many posters to support). Weirdly, my students end up great at writing and not great at speaking π

So in the cafeteria, we placed a basket to collect sealed/unopened snack items and uneaten fruit.
At the end of the lunch period the lunch monitors move the food another basket that is centrally located where students may come down to grab items for their snack (or to take home).

The thing about the relentless march of time is that you only get an ending (happy or otherwise) in fiction. Here in the real world no cause is ever lost forever even though we may not live to see it prevail. This is both hope and cautionary tale.

Even if you arenβt masking anywhere else it still makes sense to wear a mask in medical settings & pharmacies because thereβs a greater chance of being close to someone contagious & there are more people who are at higher risk in these places. Masking in these settings both protects you & others.

RFK Jr.βs CDC may limit COVID shots to 75 and up, claim they killed kids
A battle is brewing over mRNA vaccines, which could intensify backlash against Kennedy.
PSA: If you havenβt yet, it may be a good idea to get your COVID shot this week.
Reports suggest that CDC may further restrict COVID vaccine access to people aged 75 and up, unless you have an condition.
The committee that advises the CDC on vaccines meets this Thursday.

This year I have Spanish 2 (25, 20), Spanish 3 (22, 20, 21) and AP (10). Definitely a pleasant change from last year!

Nothingβs Going to Change My Mind: How Unconditional Positive Regard Transforms Classrooms
What if students didn't have to do anything to earn our care?
"Unconditional positive regard means I care about you, you have value, you donβt have to do anything to prove it to me, and nothing will change my mind" - @asv.bsky.social

Sometimes you have to make a point of arguing. Not to change the bigot's mind, because you won't.
You argue because you don't know who's listening, who's internalising, who's gauging their safety around you.
Make it clear that you're safe. Even if you don't know who you're being safe for.

I have personal experience with 1 because Iβm a liberal who has lived all my life in a red state. I am telling you that everyone I know and love is affected if you decide red states arenβt worth protecting. It is not that simple.

The issue with that statement is (1) not every person living in red districts voted for their legislator and many are working hard against this bill and (2) every human deserves basic rights, even if you donβt agree with the person. Donβt stoop to their level.
