I have a mod for Quake 2 Remaster I've been working on, and I've just updated it to version 0.2.

This mod does basic rebalancing of Q2R, but more than that, adds content - both original and from vanilla Q2 mods, such as Unseen and Zaero.

Or how about the nemesis system making use of Eternal's empowered demons system when internet is required.

Enemy kill players -> enemy gets empowered for others -> player kills empowered enemy -> chance of empowered enemy returning with a vengeance

My personal favorite Quake 1 TCs would be Slave Zero X: Episode Enyo (also accessible in remaster), and the oldie Malice for Quake (even better with the mod Malice Refined).
