A screenshot of a natural scene in unreal engine, camera is at ground level among the grass, looking at a big, hollow, mossy log's dark opening as the setting sun lights everything from the left with a warm tone, shining on tiny rocks and dry leaves. Colors are vibrant, overall it looks realistic with light stylization.

Things are shaping up in my art-test level, I'm learning so much so fast, it's exhilarating!

And let me tell you, making convincing moss at this scale is hard!

An unreal 5 screenshot of my level, we seem to be standing on the leaf of a sycamore sapling, looking at the far, blurry background, the light shining through the leaves

Made the first plant, an European Sycamore tree sapling, but it turned out too realistic (not to mention a mess for lighting xD), so I'm thinking about the game stylization right now!

Wish me luck!

Some dry leaves on the ground, a big circular clay pot is half buried in the ground and looks like a big cave. Some rocks look like mountains in the bg

Some level art for my game about a tiny gnome. Learning about landmass and procedural generation and scattering in this test level. Lighting here is the same setup, just different places and elevations of the level ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Iโ€™m not arguing with no account defending AI. My grandmother lives in an area being environmentally compromised currently by an ai data center. I remember the color of the lake before they built it and the sludge I see in it when I go to see her. Shut the fuck up about โ€œthe benefits of AIโ€ forever.

Made a lot of progress in the last few days - I've learned so much, it's really fun! Here's a mischievous gnome running away from a smog-type enemy for our prototype โœŒ๏ธ

And I would also like to point that movies look like shit long before unreal entered the scene, everyday good lighting composition becomes more and more of a lost art

Hey don't blame the blandness on the tool, it's the producers that made it look that way!

It sucks, not worth it even when it's really nicely done, it will fail at some point and make you dizzy or just bother you ๐Ÿ‘Ž

Morning, bitches!

Some upsetting statements on #creation from management

-The larger the creative team the less likely the work will be notable
-Great #art is almost always created independent of corporate requirements
-Art that changes the world is usually what no one knew they wanted at the time

21.01.2026 15:53 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 32    ๐Ÿ” 7    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Continued:

-if you create something great for a corporation itโ€™s far more likely youโ€™ll never get the credit or the money for it as opposed to making it on your own
-corporate creative jobs are neither stable or a method of โ€œmaking itโ€ as an artist
-owning your work is key to success as an artist

Check this one fact out:

"In 2024, the total installed electricity capacity of the planetโ€”every coal, gas, hydro, and nuclear plant and all of the renewablesโ€”was about 10 terawatts. The Chinese solar supply chain can now pump out 1 terawatt of panels every year."

I canโ€™t speak for everyone, but my mind tends to treat writing an article, making a video, writing a song, cooking a meal, drawing an image, and, apparently, designing software the same way. Itโ€™s not a matter of just โ€œgeneratingโ€ something perfect from my head, but exploring the tension that exists between what Iโ€™m imagining and the limitations of my stupid meat body. Thatโ€™s actually the exciting part. It also lets me figure out if something has turned out wrong or just resulted in a happy accident. Vibe coding, like every new trend coming out of Silicon Valley, turns this process โ€” the entire act of creativity, itself โ€” into a slot machine. One more pull on the AI and maybe it will figure it out for you. You wonโ€™t understand how any of it works, of course, or feel particularly proud of what youโ€™ve done, but maybe youโ€™ll have something. Just a few more dollars for some more tokens. Cโ€™mon, just pay a bit more.
