Government agencies should be subject to fines; there should be strict deadlines for providing public services (with automatic compensation if the deadline is missed), etc.

Officials bend the rules for their own (self-beneficial loop). Lack of accountability means that no one will be punished, fired, or required to compensate you for poor or slow public services.

For me (and for many others) in the European Union major problem is endless paperwork (bureaucracy): huge volumes of papers, slow processes (months instead of days), and complete lack of accountability. This is a common EU issue. The worst in #bureaucracy and #paperwork are Germany and Greece.

There’s always a “major problem” — wherever you are and whatever you do, there will always be something that annoys you more than anything else. Even if it’s a place that looks like some kind of mythical paradise :)

Google Maps, for example, should absolutely operate as a standalone company. It’s a staggering monopoly in the modern world. In so many countries there is no any strong alternatives to maps even if local IT business would know better what locals need.

Splitting these companies into multiple independent entities, each focused on their “almost-monopolistic” products, is the best solution. Society defeated monopolies in the 1920s, and it must do so again today.

The topic of regulating tech giants is incredibly important. Google recently won antitrust case in US (related to selling Chrome etc). I don’t believe Chrome would disappear if separated from Google—it would only experience temporary slowdown due to reorganization.
