Book cover. The background is deep black. There is a shield like pattern with a gold eight pointed star at its centre and a blue woven edge with points north south east and west, and gold stars. Inside the edge is a riot of shapes outlining a stormy sea, black flames with gold edges, blue clouds and water, and a female face, black with gold edging.

Book cover. A small figure clad in wet weather gear trudges head down through a desolate landscape. They could be on a beach with shingle and heaped seaweed. Behind are rocks and steam rising from hot springs. The cavernous sky is a dismal blue grey.

Book cover: A muddy path lined with bushy grass leads to an isolated house in the middle distance. There is a light in one of the upper windows, the only sign of warmth in the scene. Dark smoke rises from a chimney. The sky is grey getting darker the further up you go, and the land is grey with only hints of green.

Dorothy is a megalodon with seriously fearsome teeth and a beady eye for a book. The golem is largely made of stone, with a quietly happy looking face. On his back and head is a carpet of fertile ground on which book plants are sprouting all sorts of books.
Our regular reviewer Dorothy the megalodon met the book golem to talk about...books, of course. And the #SummerReadingChallenge, which is still on - you can join at the library. Or you can sign up online: summerreadingchallenge.org.uk
Dorothy and the golem are still talking; we can't separate them.

A lovely dollop of Galloway, Nelson, Cathbad et al. And Kate, of course. And a juicy mystery to solve.
Book cover: A stormy sky lowers over a woman treading a damp wooden boardwalk between wire fences. On one side is a single cross denoting a graveyard. The woman looks over her shoulder in apparent apprehension. She has slim legs and an elegant coat (hence is definitely not Ruth Galloway).
Text: Crimes of the past; secrets in the present. Ruth Galloway's latest case will push her to the edge. Elly Griffiths. The Outcast Dead. "Enticingly atmospheric... a really intelligent murder story" Independent

Book cover: The silhouette of a black clad person holding a gun runs along a rocky shore. The figure looks like a man, which is a bit odd as the two main characters in the book are women. In the distance is a lengthy bridge under a brilliant sunset with a helicopter hovering to one side.

David Baldacci: Simply Lies. The first Baldaci book I've read but it won't be the last. Intriguing plot and great characters; two female protagonists who may or may not be on the same side. Definitely worth reading.

Book cover. Elly Griffiths The Frozen People. Some murders can't be solved in just one lifetime.
Big Ben and the tops of the Houses of Parliament, with the sun low behind them, can be seen in the distance across a misty and cold river Thames. The scene is framed in a Gothic archway dimly lit by a lantern at the top.
