Great pic ! Cicadas , depending on species have 1-17 year cycle ( most are around 7 years I think ) so not everywhere every year . They can spend 6-8 years underground before emerging and have a short lifecycle. I found this one two weeks ago on the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria .

Really miss seeing the Christmas beetles … they were everywhere when I was a kid
