after days of grifters and con men at CES we stumbled upon the booth for VLC. they were all dressed as wizards and told us, "we have nothing to sell, we just decided to show up". i told them I'd been using their software to pirate media for 15 years and they said "keep doing that"

Same I did a lot of personal work the last few years to release my material attachments, and in packing a go-bag I realized that the only reason I wanted to take stuff was to save $ on repurchasing it, not because I needed anything. Weird feeling.

The only thing more gutting than these fires is what’s to come - who gets to rebuild, is made whole by insurance companies, etc. The class element - at its core, Pacific Palisades manses vs. multi-family dwellings in Altadena - will be undeniable and must be scrutinized.
