The fascists are counting on you finding erotica and porn too distasteful to support. Because they always start here. And even if they ended here, sexuality and erotism are integral components of queer expression. You can't support queer authors without supporting 'nsfw' content.

Front cover of the book: Remembrance and vigilance - vel d'hiv and the enduring logic of exclusion by Joffrey Baeyaert
History does not vanish — it lingers, waiting for our vigilance or our silence. My new book confronts the quiet dangers of forgetting. Read it, not to be comforted, but to stay awake.

April 25th in Portugal. A revolution without war. Soldiers with carnations in their rifles. A nation that said: enough. On this day in 1974, Portugal toppled its dictatorship not with blood, but with music, marching, and collective defiance. The Carnation Revolution remains one of the rare moments in history where liberation arrived not through destruction, but through refusal—of fear, silence, obedience. What does this mean in 2025? It means remembrance is not static. It means history is not a graveyard of dates, but a live wire through which we confront the present. Vel’ d’Hiv was the opposite of April 25. It was silence instead of song. Obedience instead of resistance. Administration instead of justice. But both are part of the same question: What is the threshold between duty and complicity? When does a system protect—and when does it persecute? April 25 reminds us that the gears of injustice can be stopped. That refusal is also a form of construction. That dignity is not granted—it is reclaimed. The past does not repeat. It insists. And today, it whispers: "What will you do with your freedom?" — Joffrey Baeyaert

I write to resist anesthetic language. I write because history does not vanish—it mutates. I write because even the most silent structures must be named. I write to resist simplification. I write to trace the fault lines. I write because silence, too, is a structure—and it must be studied.

I’m Joffrey Baeyaert—writer, researcher, and strategist—working at the porous edges where memory, power, and classification converge. My trajectory is not one of specialization, but of sedimentation: layered, recursive, and quietly defiant of disciplinary borders. I began in the humanities—four years steeped in literature, philosophy, and history. I taught briefly, introducing students to the architecture of language and the weight of historical silence. But theory alone felt insufficient.
I was drawn toward the living systems of the world—toward biology, then marine ecology, and eventually into the tangled realms of data and algorithmic governance. From tracking sarks to dissecting machine logic, my work has always sought the same thing: to understand how systems encode values—and how, without vigilance, those values calcify into exclusion.
Remembrance and Vigilance: Vel’ d’Hiv and the Enduring Logic of Exclusion is my attempt to map a terrain we prefer to leave unmapped. Not to equate past and present, but to expose their structural rhymes. I write not to recount, but to confront: the bureaucratization of cruelty, the erosion of moral agency beneath the veil of procedure, the ease with which injustice can be administered with a signature and a silence.
I was born in France. Today I live in Portugal. I’ve worked in ecological research, data strategy, and AI ethics—moving across disciplines not to escape coherence, but to find it elsewhere. I wear suspenders. I trust questions more than answers. My work is eclectic, yes, but deliberately so—anchored in the belief that critical thought must be both rigorous and disobedient.
