I'm betting I'll make a million mistakes before things go well haha! Thank you for the software info, too!

I should clarify, there was a full GUI, but you interacted with it via mostly typing and not clicking. I'd click every once in a while or use the mouse to pan/zoom, but almost everything else was typing in the command line โŒจ๏ธ

Hey, it's good to know there are options! Almost all of my work was in AutoCAD, but it was all cli and now when I see people working in AutoCAD, it's all point and click, and only the older people seem to be using a classic view cli. I don't think I would like point and click but I'll try!

26.01.2026 17:24 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Ohhhhh, this is good to know! Now that you say that, I think the advice was that using stainless steel with PETG might wear out faster, so that makes sense.

26.01.2026 17:23 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

You did CAD, too?! There are not many of us, I think, it's good to know!!

26.01.2026 17:22 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Oooo, about the CAD skills? I don't even know what software people are using for modeling their parts ๐Ÿ˜… back in the day, I used AutoCAD and solidworks, but I don't want to pay for either of those and would love to stay open source if I can. My mom uses corelDRAW for her lasers still

26.01.2026 16:49 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

yayyyy, I will!! I know I'll have all kinds of questions. Like, do I really need to get a hardened steel nozzle thing if I want to print with PETG, or is a stainless steel nozzle gonna be ok, if I use something like a nicer PETG that has a slightly lower melting temp? This is a whole new world

26.01.2026 16:48 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I definitely need suggestions, resources, and learning for sanding and priming!!

26.01.2026 16:46 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

It's ok! I think the more I work on it, the better it will be. Modern life with all it's pinging and interruptions makes it tough. I'm learning more and more how to turn everything off and remove all the distractions when I want to suspend the buzz of life for a while. I still reach for my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ™ˆ

26.01.2026 16:46 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I'm that person who is constantly like, "GAH, I'll make it myself!" and I always wish I had a printer! I'm gonna go wild! Mine won't come with any, I don't think, but I did order some that had good reviews! I only ordered black and white, though, I need more fun colors ๐ŸŒˆ๐ŸŒˆ

26.01.2026 06:47 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I love the background color! It took me like a full 30 seconds to realize it was "star" and "stars" - and not "star" twice. It's been a long week ๐Ÿ™ˆ

26.01.2026 05:16 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I would never have thought to do some topic modeling, I love this!

I'm getting a 3D printer ๐Ÿ—๏ธ Got any resources & advice? Except for which one to get because that bell has been rung ๐Ÿ˜‚

In another life, I was a CAD drafter (site plans, redlines, assessment floor plans) - are those (rusty) skills gonna come in handy with 3D printing? Any #databs 3D printing folks? ๐Ÿค”

I think the closest I get these days is reading, but it takes a lot to get my brain into flow without my body protesting. I crave the flow ๐Ÿ˜ญ

24.01.2026 16:48 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Ability in this case. It's like my capacity for everything is more shallow and my anxiety, body aches, general sense of dread, etc. win out against my immersion! I had a lot of anxiety and dread as a kid, too, but my little brain was definitely more capable of tuning into its own frequency โœจโœจ

24.01.2026 15:27 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

TRUTH. I'm finding my hyperfixation capacity is more like 4 hours these days, and then my body begins to fall apart. I just need a robot body! Lemme just plug in

It is such a human thing to ask, "is it just me?" ๐Ÿค” You're an n=1 experiment. You can wonder all day long if what you're experiencing is normal, average, expected (some of those things aren't helpful, but you get the idea), but the way to really find out is to talk to people. Even when it's scary โค๏ธ

24.01.2026 14:31 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 12    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I absolutely do not bounce back from all-nighters anymore ๐Ÿ˜‚ and it's such a shame, haha!

Will we ever get there again??

I can still hear the game in my head! I wish my brother didn't live so far away so he could come over and play โค๏ธ

SS Bros Melee was our game of choice! With my friends it was SoulCalibur. I picked up SoulCalibur II on switch a couple of months ago and beat the regular story mode in one go. I was like, dang, I remember this being harder ๐Ÿ˜‚ but my friends were so GOOD.

Every time someone laments growing up, I'm like, "speak for yourself, you couldn't pay me to go back in time!!"

24.01.2026 00:54 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yessss, that sounds like a good memory. My little brother and I have similar ones around Zelda games and Super Smash Bros

24.01.2026 00:53 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

You underestimate my ability to hyperfocus ๐Ÿ˜‚ I'd read whole novels in one sitting, or beat games overnight. I didn't do a lot of sleeping as a kid (or as an adult)

I don't miss childhood, mine was garbage, I just miss the ability to plug into a pixelated video game or book or craft project for 12 hours and not feeling the passage of time ๐Ÿ˜ซ

LLMs interpret plots well, until expectations interfere - Posit

This is the stuff I wish I hope to see more of. In a sea of similar posts about #vibecoding, it's refreshing to read @sara-altman.bsky.social & @simonpcouch.com digging into the whethers /whys of AI's utility in data analysis. We need lighthouses in this #AI storm ๐ŸŒŠ #databs

Happy to help!! I think I linked the playlist at pos.it/dslab, too. I'm going to try to put upcoming guests there, as well, if I can!

I'm trying so hard to do it throughout. I think what might help me is putting it in a Google Calendar event as I do it or something. I've tried SO many methods ๐Ÿ™ˆ but usually DM to myself in slack or a scrawled note on scratch paper ends up being it
