it is well designed, i like the art direction which does a good job of smoothing over some of the animation shortcuts. i’m also fascinated by the difference in idol culture now vs like 10 years ago, the k-pop influence is so strong.

also not really buying the fun in “everyone actually sucks in this idol group.” why doesn’t she get disillusioned by the members being assholes? and why does everyone have to react so wildly to everything all the time? it’s like a kids youtube video, it’s exhausting

it’s probably because i’m uncomfortable with celebrity worship in general, and that probably wouldn’t apply to fictional anime, but that’s where all the humor tries to be. she worships the image of tamon so deeply that she physically can’t handle it and explodes into nothing at the smallest touch.

so like, i’m familiar with oshikatsu. i’ve made ita bags, bought a ton of merch, taken travel photos… it’s something i understand personally. but the extreme version of oshikatsu with real people is just a little much for me. going on pilgrimages to where they’ve visited… it gets to a point.

i think tamon’s b-side might be a bit much for me. the humor is starting to chafe

i’m being vague because it can apply to a lot of things, but it came into my mind today because someone said they’d never watched the super bowl and never will. like it’s one thing if you don’t care, that’s perfectly fine, but don’t look down on people who want to witness what a bunch of others do

some people say they don’t participate in some popular thing like they expect to be patted on the back for Not Doing Something, at the same time considering themselves better than everyone who does like that thing. why is it a point of pride to you?

i consider myself someone who shuns a lot of popular shit, mostly because of arbitrary personal preferences, but i find myself often envying people who genuinely like popular things because they have a connection to, like, The Culture that i don’t

i still haven’t gone back to rewatch the first one after only seeing it once in japanese with no subtitles lol. just haven’t felt the urge.

the expressions are just so… i feel like mario characters wouldn’t make them. i struggle a lot with modern western animation for the same reason, and i don’t think there’s anything wrong with it, but some of it is like nails on chalkboard to me.

i think it’s really hard for me to appreciate the mario movies because the visual language is just so american
