Florida lawmakers are pushing HB 1381, a bill that could make it harder—if not impossible—for some Floridians to vote.

We’ve been here before.

Social justice organizations plan to rally against Gov. DeSantis' agenda in Tallahassee A coalition of social justice groups is calling on Floridians to rally in Tallahassee on March 26 to protest Gov. Ron DeSantis' agenda.

“we now have policies that criminalize poverty & leave vulnerable people with nowhere to turn. Every person housed/not has the right to move freely, access public spaces & receive emergency care, yet this law forces many to live in fear,”

Irish Unification, 2024 | Jack Sheehan It has become common to hear talk from across the political spectrum of the inevitability of Irish reunification. But what, in practice, would it look like?

“Since 1798, the dream of Irish republicanism has been to unify Catholic, Protestant, & Dissenter in one cross-sectarian national movement. The unionist project has been to stop this from happening. With the psychic grip of unionism waning, why not hope?”

BREAKING

Earlier today, a whistleblower came forward to reveal blatant human rights violations at an ICE facility in Florida.

The whistleblower, a former medical practitioner at the Baker County Detention Center, documented a pattern of systemic neglect: staff denying basic medical care to immigrants, falsifying records to cover their tracks, and subjecting detained individuals to racial and sexual harassment.

This whistleblower’s testimony corroborates the account of a young woman whose sexual abuse at Baker is detailed in a federal civil rights complaint that was also released today. In her complaint, Ana discloses details of unlawful sexual harassment, voyeurism, and abuse of solitary confinement.

A survivor of trafficking and domestic violence, Ana was kept in solitary for over a month after asking for feminine hygiene products. Over time, her mental health deteriorated and instead of addressing her health needs, male guards stripped her, strapped her to a restraint chair, and mocked her.

We cannot allow a government-run facility to treat people with such deliberate contempt and predatory behavior. Baker has let xenophobia and misogyny run rampant at its facility for far too long, and has curated an abusive and unlivable environment for immigrants. It is an affront to human decency, and such state-sanctioned abuse is unacceptable. It is time to hold Baker accountable and to call for its immediate closure.

Today, a whistleblower revealed horrific abuses and rights violations at an ICE facility in Baker County, Florida. This backs up a woman named Ana's account of sexual harassment and other abuse she faced.

Baker's had hundreds of complaints. It's time to shut it down: action.aclu.org/petition/fl-...
