The daft thing is that with Proportional Representation there'd be no need for this self-destructive war within Labour. It could split into its component parts - left and right - and people could vote for what they wanted. It's only First-Past-the-Post that forces these irreconcilables together.

This is it. America has lost Britain.
By insulting the British Army and those who fought and died alongside the US in Afghanistan, Trump’s America has destroyed the “special relationship.”
If that doesn’t sound like much to you, it should.

Boris Johnson: The Covid Tragedy and England's Clown King
Get news direct from reporters you trust.
Johnson spent years charming, bluffing, and backstabbing his way to the top.
Positioning himself as a latter-day Churchill when the moment came and leadership was desperately needed, he showed us who he was...
And thousands died.

Newmarket MP Matt Hancock gave a £37bn Covid testing contract to Jockey Club director Dido Harding, who subcontracted it to Grand National sponsor Randox, employer of Tory MP Owen Paterson, whose late wife chaired Aintree racecourse. That's how the Tories handled the pandemic.

Panasonic is a good choice. I've had several makes & models over the years but my current Panasonic sdyr2540 is by far the best I've had and I've given it a lot of use.
As with all breadmakers it does pay to measure ingredients accurately. That's probably more important than the make, to be honest.

Can anyone explain why the Government is still doing most of its communications through a website whose owner is now openly rallying the far right to trigger a violent insurrection on our streets?

Why the UK can’t go broke – and why Gary Stevenson shouldn't imply it could
The UK can’t run out of pounds any more than it can run out of inches or centimetres. In this response to Gary Stevenson, I explain why money is a public good, created by the state, and why it’s wrong to claim the government is broke.

Pretty sure #r4today presented by Brian Readhead and John Timpson wouldn't have covered the death of Hulk Hogan.

Presenters of #r4today have normalised the need for nearly 3,000 food banks to the extent they no longer mention their existence. However make a suggestion about a wealth tax and the animation of those on the show (completely unconcerned about themselves of course!) is palpable.

There isn't a story on the BBC News site about today's trans rights rally at Parliament Square where it's estimated 20k attended. But they did have a story last week about the Let Women Speak transphobe rally in Bristol where 100 people attended.

Labour’s disability benefit cuts betray the vulnerable—fairer alternatives exist
Labour's £5bn disability benefit cuts hurt the most vulnerable. Fairer options, like a wealth tax, could fund support without harm
“Oxfam’s latest inequality report showed that the total wealth of UK billionaires increased by £35mn per day in 2024. Increasing taxes on the super-rich through a modest wealth tax could generate an estimated £24bn a year.”

Flat tax rate is an ‘attractive idea’, Kemi Badenoch says
Rule would mean a tax rise for basic ratepayers and a huge cut for higher earners if change was fiscally neutral
A flat tax: a silly idea that asks everyone to pay the same % on their income, ignoring that the very richest barely feel the pinch while the rest struggle to make ends meet. Taxing the us, the richest, more isn’t a punishment —it’s common sense and our privilege www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
