We have to ask: what is it about the way American life is constituted that it appears to be a machine designed to produce anxiety & depression in its participants, and could we reconstitute it to produce something different?
21.03.2025 13:36 — 👍 12 🔁 3 💬 1 📌 0Good point! Performance certainly sounds inauthentic, insincere. I appreciate the artistry though - the sense that there is a very creative element that makes learning engaging, provocative, immersive. In some ways, part of the action - not audience.

I see this! I think the “magic” is in understanding the evidence, knowing our students and responding “artfully”. It’s a an art and a science!
16.03.2025 23:48 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0The "art," as described in. The passage you've highlighted, really comes down to teachers' interest in, curiosity about, and respect for kids.
I'm loath, though, to embrace any definition of teaching that places art or magic ahead of dedicated professionalism. (3)
Yes, informed practice matters. I think we are getting a lot of “prescribed” “scripted” teaching.
16.03.2025 22:18 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Agreed - the more strategies and approaches we can employ, the more responsive we can be.
16.03.2025 22:17 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0This is from Phil Beadle - his thoughts on teaching are provocative. I agree with this one because it speaks to the challenges and calls for creativity and responsiveness. We have all experienced the disengaged or disenchanted teacher!
