Given that just 4.25% of the world's population lives in the United States of America this might be the moment for the 95.75% of the rest of us to leave them to it.

I work for a DT, and I'm often surprised at the vitriol leveled at CC's- I wonder if people just don't realise how little power CCs currently have- especially if they have moved from England- where PCs have more teeth. On the flip, people join the CC under the same impression and are disappointed

Feels like a lot of people *really* want an invisible underclass that just serves them overpriced coffees, cleans their second homes, looks after them when they're old and then disappears off to a housing scheme (that was probably vociferously objected to) tucked out of the way of their view

Presenting this info at face to face community events and simultaneously having to listen to STL owners repeating the tory narrative that 'people just don't want to work anymore' because they can't find a cleaner makes me feel hysterical.

I've been looking at the latest census data for NW Skye, which shows a dramatic decimation of the under 50yo population, and a dramatic increase of the retirement aged population, far more dramatic than the national, highland, or western isles trends.

I think reading NG now might feel like that in reverse.

I think it reminds me of when you have a bad feeling about someone, hear rumours, (I'm from a super rural area) and then they get done for something terrible, and you're shocked but not surprised. It almost feels like there's a degree of collective complicity when that happens in a community

I imagine lots of folk are thinking about this this week. I usually find if an artist turns out to be a c*#t I just naturally enjoy their work less until they fade away. My daughter and I have been trying to unpick our feelings about NG and his work and ourselves. It doesn't feel easy
