I just wish our system would name it. The vast majority of the time people really mean academic standards. So just say ‘high academic standards’. I’d like to see people talking about and expecting, valuing high standards of relationships. High social standards. I value that more if I’m honest.

Systems, consequences can be compatible with relational practice. Good quality restorative work is compatible with relational practice. Just thought I’d throw in some nuance. Ideologues on both sides of this debate it seems.

All leaders I meet highlight an increase in challenge with parents/families. Stories like this are the conclusion of an environment where denigration of schools and staff has become normalised. Schools often feel unable to make decisions that are in the best interests of children in fear a backlash.
