07.10.2025 14:29 β π 11 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0USS Kearny in Reykjavik harbour, Iceland, on 19th October 1941 with fellow Gleaves-Class destroyer USS Mommsen moored alongside. The torpedo damage amidships is clearly visible. The photograph shows a close-up view of a two-funnelled destroyer with a large hole in its side just aft of the bridge. The ship is in a sheltered anchorage in the lee of a steep hillside. A 4-stack destroyer is visible in the background. π· NHHC NH 52253
17th October 1941. While escorting an Atlantic convoy, and having made multiple depth charge attacks on U-Boats the previous night, the destroyer USS Kearny was hit by a single torpedo. 11 of her crew were killed and 22 injured, but she was able to limp into Iceland at 10 knots.

I will also say that it is just as important to celebrate the victories as it is to address the defeats and Wisconsin Maritime Museum deserves a round of applause for completing their 4 week drydocking period with COBIA
