Why that's a huge problem for me? Because they are the first results when using "open source", "FOSS" or anything else in the ballpark as search terms. And it pisses me off so much.

nothing screams a good Desktop linux news website than @itsfoss.bsky.social using AI-generated images and publishing ads as articles without disclaimer other than little (partner link) hints. Not only that, but advertising a service that's contradictory to the site's name ASIDE their Linux client.

I'm not sure if i should trust a comparison website that doesn't give sources to their claims, whether to verify the claims or to debunk them, while saying Switzerland are worth a few points, because in E2EE it doesn't matter where the data and servers are hosted. That's the whole point of E2EE.

..it comes to change to services that cost money, because nothing comes for free. And even if it's just Posteo and Proton Drive, it's 11 euros a month for just two services. And not anyone can afford it.
Paying for privacy is fine, i just wish it would also benefit those who can't afford it.

But i think overall i'm happy how much happened within 2 years. Not only that, but i got 2 friends of mine to look at all that and decide to make a jump. Even if not by much, deciding to do even small steps is better than not doing it out of comfort reasons.

The only reason i let go by is when..

I think there's really only a handful of software and services i use that aren't privacy-respecting or open-source. Mainly manufacturer software for SSDs and peripherals, Windows and the basic suite of accounts that i need in order to have food at home and contracts for electricity and internet.

Please de-consider one of the recommendation, namely Threema. After reading through the cryptography behind it thanks to someone making me aware of this issue, i don't think i feel comfortable for people paying 5 euro for something they can get better from Signal for free and rather just donating.
