Once I called a guy in work Hugh but his name was Ciarán. To cover up my mistake i started mispronouncing the word “you” as “Hugh”. Ciarán probably thought “ahhh he didn’t get my name wrong he just has a weird accent”.
Success!
Everyone else probably thought it was the first sign of brain damage.

The algorithm (tm) seems to have decided I’m a “Millennial” as I am getting tonnes of “nostalgic” ads for things I consider the kids being into.

A lot longer than five years ago, but I met my wife the day I moved back to Ireland from England in 2005, well to be exact 30mins after I moved back. Still in the airport.

Age verification should be someone going 'Fogg! I'm the one who made the bet!' and seeing if you can fill in the rest in real time

Any chance of The Blower's Daughter by Damien Rice?
Cheers.

Conclusion of a new metaanalysis of 112 prior studies examining urban design & loneliness:
Residents are less lonely if their neighborhood offers green space, walkability, and proximity to amenities like bars, restaurants, and shops.

Doing some analysis involving population demographics today and it made me remember starting school in 1986. 37 in my class, and there were five classes. By 1991 the school was riddled with prefabs, and we still had "split days" one class used the classroom in the morning, another in the afternoon.

Just back from a fun stroll around Dublin city centre in the rain. Good palatte cleanser, lots of tourists around, reminding me I live in a pretty cool place.

This is me in what I think was Flanagan’s in 1989.
Think the last time I was there was 1992.

No trip into town as a kid in the 80s was ever complete without a trip to Flanagan’s.
Used think my parents were mocking us, McDonalds was literally next door.

As I see it so prominently in your picture, have to say The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my favourite books of all time. I first read it in my late teens. I started reading Dumas because of Dogtanian.

Do you ever not notice your own accent until you get a chance to listen to it, then realise that somewhere along the lines you picket up quite a strong accent.
I noticed my own accent when reading my daughter a bedtime story.

@rickoshea.bsky.social most people listening may be thinking 2001: A Space Odyssey right now. Me? I want to throw up my hands and strut down the corridor Ric Flair style.

There's a voice, keeps on calling me
Down the road, that's where I'll always be
And every stop I make, I make a new friend
Can't stay too long, just turn around and I'm going again
Maybe tomorrow I'll wanna settle down
Until tomorrow I'll just keep moving on

A lot of physical civil infrastructure, used by thousands if not tens of thousands every day, has been designed in Microsoft Excel.

I'm in one of those, "I'm only mid forties, I'm still young, why does my knee hurt" days. Any chance of something to cheer up this "class of '99" OAP?
I'm thinking Baz Luhrman, or even better When We Were Young from Whipping Boy.
