The Female Loneliness Epidemic is larger than the Male Loneliness Epidemic, but you do not hear about it.

The reason, to me, seems to be rooted in the fact that lonely females are far less likely to shoot you.

given one of the few good uses for LLMs is coding assistance maybe tech council members should immediately open source all their code under a permissive license. to do otherwise would risk harming investment in the AI industry in Australia, imo

There are basic but fundamental errors at the heart of the Wolf-Pettis thesis. Most importantly, there is a misunderstanding of the meaning and definition of 'saving'. 1/

Starmerism Down Under Anthony Albaneseโ€™s Australian Labor Party is competing with Starmerโ€™s for blandness and capitulation โ€” and in doing so, proving the importance of rebuilding international working-class power.

"If New Labour learned how to win from Hawke and Keating, Albanese taught Starmer how not to lose."

Your screenshot is irrelevant. ChatGPT would do the same thing for any writer. If itโ€™s doing a good job of emulating your style it probably has been trained on your articles but that was almost certainly the case before the official partnership.

The source of the ad revenue was Google to begin with. Itโ€™s a brutal and very damaging move to be sure, but Iโ€™m not sure these site owners have โ€˜rightsโ€™ to maximise revenue from Google. I see it more as an issue of a massive power imbalance.

If you're a journalist in the US and you're not speaking out against the ongoing killing of Palestinian journalists, at record levels, by a US-funded foreign military, then you should hang your head in shame.

I just read Abundance. Yes, we need to build faster. To do so, we need to be precise about what causes delays.

Imprecision risks a co-opting of "abundance" by deregulation fans โ€“ a smokescreen to jettison labor & equity standards that arenโ€™t the source of delay.

How Covid Sickened the National Psyche While the US was a troubled nation long before the coronavirus, our failure to treat the pandemic as an enduring emergency helped birth this nasty moment.

Covid made the world sicker, angrier, and more fragmented. There has been no recovery from the social and medical consequences. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

China's desulphurization definitely led to regional warming and (extreme) precipitation increase.

Shipping SOx is over the oceans, which likely causes a very strong regional and global forcing.

Ok this wasnโ€™t phrased perfectly and I was dealing with space constraints. What I meant was that the biggest source of non-recuperable costs is the research, infrastructure development and then compute costs of creating a foundation model. Whereas the unit economics of inference are not doomed

This is simplistic at best. The training process, which is the bulk of the cost, doesnโ€™t depend on how many users there are. And I believe theyโ€™re now profiting on inference (daily usage) at least with lower-end models.
If you blindly trust Ed Zitron, you will be endlessly confused and disappointed.

This is the message we need to send at #TeslaTakedown protests today: we know Tesla's trillion dollar valuation is built on fraud and abuse, and we are coming for it. We will make Tesla ownership a taboo, cars and stock, unthinkable to anyone who believes in the basic values of the U.S. constitution
