"I’ve always loved stories that blur the line between the real world and something just outside of what’s possible. I found this blurring was a useful device in this story to mimic the experience of a person with Alzheimer’s since they can have difficulty determining what’s real, what’s an out-of-place memory, and hallucinations. The magical elements are meant to put the reader in this state of questioning events while also having no choice but to accept what is presented to them." - Interview: Josh Rank
