You usually notice it during stutters. It pretty quickly changes from dim to bright to normal within a second.

I assume the monitor tries to compensate brightness change with low refresh rate, but it's a moving average calculation. So a brief drop in FPS causes some mis-compensation.

I have the ASUS PG27AQDM. It's not necessarily flickering you see, but brightness change when the frame rate fluctuates.

Some games are better than others. I turn off G-Sync for CS2 and Gmod, but keep it on for everything else. It's most noticeable during loading screens of other games.
