AFAIK it's mostly had to do with a lot of reshuffling and internal disagreements at RA, causing development to slow massively down. Which led to players slowly leaving and therefore less money for RA, RA having to cut costs, and repeat.

Suffice to say, I'll mourn for what never became. I'm glad that I had the chance to experience this wonderful game and its stories in the Book of Bequeathers, and I hope to enjoy what remains of it before it shuts down for good.

The game had phenomenal music, phenomenal art, and phenomenal characters, so many of whom I remember dearly. The game, in its story, struck that right note for me, that mix of lighthearted adventure, bitter sadness, and struggle against forces beyond you. It resonated with me a lot.

Today, February 11th, Sdorica has switched into end of life mode, ceasing all development and making all units available to pull for.

The announcement hurts a lot. I was there day 1 and fell in love with the game. My profile picture (a temple bird from Mirage) is even from it.

I just dropped my phone, and there's a small thing of soy sauce below it on the table.

Somehow in that moment, my brain calculated the risk of damaging my phone vs. getting soy sauce everywhere, and I pushed my phone away before it hit the soy sauce.

Brains are cool.
