Earlier this week we saw blatant anti-Chinese racism from one of Labour's MPs right here in Glasgow, while the political establishment fawned over his use of biscuits to talk down to the public. Your Party will stand up to all forms of racism, supporting the thousands of Chinese people in Glasgow.

Post image It will soon be a month since Your Party got its first councillors in Glasgow. In October, Seonad Hoy, Dan Hutchison and Leodhas Massie defected from the Scottish Greens, giving us three councillors on Glasgow City Council.

Itโ€™s been a busy month for the trio: appearing at their first Full Council; winning new seats at the table for trade unions at the council; forming a Councillor Liaison Group (CLG) with the branch to work going forward; even challenging the SFA on Scotland hosting Israeli footballers.

Now, they are hosting their first Councillorsโ€™ Assembly with Your Party Glasgow members and supporters, and we want you to join us.

At this event we will discuss potential motions to Glasgow City Council that our three councillors could take forward, and the decision on which one of these is submitted will be put in your hands.

This will also be a chance for you to meet Glasgowโ€™s biggest ever group of socialist councillors in person, discuss how we can work together as a branch and councillor group, and how we work best for everyone in Glasgow.

Young people arenโ€™t just part of this movement, they must be the engine driving it.

From trans rights to a party that backs renters over landlords, the fight for maximum member democracy matters so we can build a party led by its members, not MPs.

I had a great time in Manchester discussing this!

House of Commons headed letter:

The Rt Honourable Yvette Cooper MP
Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs
Sent via email

29 October 2025

Dear Foreign Secretary,

Re: Urgent concern regarding the detention of British journalist Sami Hamdi by U.S. authorities

I am writing to raise my serious concerns about the case of Sami Hamdi, a British citizen, journalist and political commentator whose visa was revoked by the U.S. Department of State and who was subsequently detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at San Francisco International Airport.

Mr Hamdi entered the U.S. on 19 October 2025 on a visitor visa for public engagements and was on a speaking tour when his visa was revoked on 24 October 2025. Shortly thereafter, he was detained by ICE and is pending removal.

Advocacy groups including the International Federation of Journalists have expressed serious concern that his detention appears to be linked to his public commentary and criticism of Israeli government policy and U.S. foreign policy alignments.

Given the profound implications of this case for free expression and human rights, I urge you to:
โ€ข Raise Mr Hamdi's case at the highest diplomatic levels with your U.S. counterpart as a matter of urgency.
โ€ข Request immediate formal consular access to Mr Hamdi.
โ€ข Press the U.S. authorities for a full and transparent explanation of the grounds for his visa revocation and detention.
โ€ข Demand Mr Hamdi's return home safely without delay.
โ€ข Publicly challenge the apparent use of immigration enforcement as a tool of political repression.

I appreciate your urgent attention to this matter and would welcome any updates on the steps that can be taken to ensure Mr Hamdi's safe and immediate return home to his family.

Yours sincerely,
Zarah Sultana MP
Member of Parliament for Coventry South

Last month I wrote to the Foreign Secretary about the detention of British journalist Sami Hamdi by U.S. authorities โ€” a deeply troubling case for press freedom and human rights.

Iโ€™m relieved to hear that heโ€™s set to be released and will return home to his family soon.

Call for Facilitators
Volunteer now
yourpartyglasgow@gmail.com
To make the regional assemblies the best they can be, we need around 30 volunteer facilitators across the in-person events and the online assembly.

Weโ€™re particularly keen to hear from folk with facilitation and note taking skills to volunteer, as theyโ€™re likely to be lively events.

Weโ€™ll be running a quick session on either Thursday or Friday early evening online to go through the facilitation plan, so would be massively helpful if you can be available for this too.

Please get in touch if youโ€™re able to help out.
