Democracy requires an educated population and an independent press, not MAGA and Postmedia. We are doomed unless we fix this. Nonpartisan centrist living in the Comox Valley.

Many of the problems in America are based on structural faults.
Our constitutional monarchy, Westminster parliamentary system isn’t perfect, but it works pretty well compared to theirs.

US cleaning woman shot and killed after arriving at wrong home Police say they found Maria Florinda Rios Perez, 32, dead after she was shot on the front porch of a home in an Indianapolis suburb.

Poilievre has said he wants US-style β€œcastle doctrine” law in Canada. This is what happens with that: dead innocent people.

Canada’s current laws allow reasonable, commensurate force to protect one’s home, family and assets. Let’s leave it that way.

One of the top 5 most respected news sources on the planet versus a loathsome faux-Christian apologist for a dictatorship.

Reasonable politicians need to loudly and proactively call out this nonsense.
Make conspiracy theories shameful again.

I bet not one of these crackpot protesters actually gives a damn about animal welfare. They’re all just a bunch of conspiracy theorist weirdos latching onto the latest #MapleMAGA fake outrage grift.

If AB had anti-SLAPP legislation like we do here in BC, this case would be shut down quickly and cheaply.

After Poilievre gets the boot in the next 3 months to 2 years, I would be shocked if Ford is not the next CPC leader, and then he goes on to win a general election.
(Either that or the party goes even more RWNJ #MapleMAGA and chooses Baber or Lewis.)

I am constantly gobsmacked by how many voters vote for a party without any idea whatsoever who their candidate is.
That’s the demographic who gets riled up when MLAs and MPs leave a caucus.

Mamdani is a uniquely exciting and articulate politician, like Obama was.
Nobody running for the federal NDP leadership has anywhere near this level of personality.

This is a non-issue. Anyone who thinks that reducing the PS by 10% through attrition over 3 years is going to negatively affect services hasn’t spent any time in the Ottawa PS. I have and I welcome this.

Me: β€œCarney’s budget could have reduced the public service further through attrition with no negative impacts.”
LWNJ: β€œYou’re a soulless ghoul!”

It’s no surprise the CLC is against downsizing of the public service, full stop.
As a reasonable moderate centrist who was for years part of that public service, I know the downsizing could have gone much further, with no impact on service to the public.
Because Ottawa bloat.

If you think more public servants means better service for the public, you haven’t spent years working for the government in Ottawa.
The bloat in the PS, especially at middle management, actually makes everything more inefficient.
I lived this.

D’entremont has clearly been very unhappy with Poilievre’s leadership for a long time, so this is not a surprise. And in a swing riding it makes sense.

05.11.2025 07:06 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Public service reductions should have been much deeper and could have been achieved through attrition and ending terms and casuals.
Numbers will still remain well above 2016, and when I left the PS in 2016 it was a bloated mess of too much management.

In America he’s falsely labeled a communist by a regime that is actually fascist.

'Very scary': Nanaimo neighbours have water worries about new data centre The construction of a new and controversial data centre in Nanaimo is expected to bring out large opposition at Monday night's city council meeting.

If you’re a municipal politician, ban AI and data centres in your community ASAP. They create very few jobs but suck up water and electricity. They are not worth it.
It’s no surprise that weak, ineffectual Nanaimo Council supports them.

That’s a promise.

Clearance is based on need-to-know, and the LOO definitely needs to know.

For a dictatorship that claimed it was anti-war, they sure have threatened a lot of wars recently: Greenland, Iran, Venezuela, now Nigeria.
Being black, oil-rich, and 55% non-Christian ups the odds this one might happen.

Every riding is a different election and in many the LPC are not contenders. While the LPC might squeak out a majority, it’s just as possible the CPC would.
I’d rather not take the risk.
