To be fair, they haven't written very much code :)

So grossly irresponsible when BBC News notifications are the number one source of news for most people in the UK.

ask me anything about Lean (theorem prover / programming language)!

caveat: i’ve only been learning it for a few months so i’m at a stage one could call “an inspired amateur”

Are there features in lean that you think would be valuable in and possible to port to mainstream programming languages?

Kevin Buzzard at Imperial London I believe is doing stuff trying to build up a library of undergraduate level proofs for lean. Have you reached out or looked at trying to contribute? Might be an interesting avenue.

As some solace, you gain personally just from writing them by gaining better mastery and explanatory competency of the topic you're writing about. Also, I do read them.

Often when you click on links/press share link/copy links there will be extra "query parameters" that serve no role other than to track where the link came from when used to access content. Used primarily by marketers/analytics to track the origins of links. e.g. url?utm_source=google.com

Can't help but feel sorry for the skeleton crew that remains there. Must not feel great right now.

I mean, you know it's a wet dream of the home office to cut all internet lines, establish an internat, and route all encrypted traffic through central nodes giant state middle of a middle attack.

If JP Morgan has built these APIs, it's probably as a consequence of operating in the UK and Europe. The change here is they want to start charging their US third parties for access.

I'm assuming here what they're actually talking about is consensual data access of customer data. In the UK and Europe, we have regulations around "open banking APIs", where banks are required to implement APIs that allow other financial services to provide, say, budgeting tools.

Cultivating cane sugar, so they didn't go mad from all of the lead poisoning by trying to sweeten their wine with lead.

They aren't, this is just a guest opinion piece by Marshall who has a commercial interest in this nonsense.

A lot of the poor reaction driven by was those who primarily followed the show and saw her as a hero and not as a potential liability. The show did some work to focus on her negative qualities, but not nearly as much as the boons and so her pivot into madness felt unjustified to many.

I have a feeling the books would have ended quite differently from the show, but at this point, I think I've exhausted any hope that we'll get anything more than half written manuscripts and notes.

I've already said it, but is this better or worse than Sunak. It's very unclear to me and I'm starting to miss him. At least I had no hope that he would do anything about planning.

That is not true. UK until very recently was plauged with fraudulent calls from largely overseas operations using largely UK mobile numbers. It's either been cracked down up or become ineffective, but effectively it trained an entire population to view unknown numbers as probable fraud.

At the moment you cannot get government subsidy to replace your boiler with a heat pump if it can cool, which is just baffling. It's also borderline illegal for developers to design new builds with AC. It's baffling.

13.07.2025 16:49 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

It is really insane how Whitehall treats cooling when there is a huge opportunity to sell air to air heat pumps to replace boilers on their ability to cool. A clear USP for heat pumps over gas boilers, and ultimately if we fix our grid and invest in solar should be very affordable.

13.07.2025 16:43 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

It depends upon how much heat your home absorbs and how many rooms you want to cool. Consuming between 700W (one room) to 5KW. Keep in mind only for a small part of the year during the day and evening during peak solar generation (for the grid it should be cheap).

13.07.2025 16:35 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

I hope with these back to back heatwaves there are some ministers at home sweating puddles writing an email to their departments asking why we effectively ban AC in new builds and block air to air source heat pumps from government subsidy.
