The BL annual reports for over a decade made such dispiriting reading: a story of declining revenue (after document supply declined and austerity), leading to staffing reductions and under-investment.

โ€ขโ€ขโ€ขโ€ขโ€ขPURGE ALERTโ€ขโ€ขโ€ขโ€ขโ€ข

Trump gleefully fired Dr. Carla Hayden, the first woman and the first Black American to serve as the librarian of Congress.

Hayden was appointed in 2016 by President Barack Obama.

It seems the Trump regime has identified Dr. Hayden as โ€œanti-Trumpโ€ and โ€œwoke.โ€

Dr Carla Hayden was a truly great Librarian of Congress. It is an outrage that she has been sacked - a national shame on the United States. I had the pleasure of knowing her and working with her - sheโ€™ll continue to do good in the next phase of her career whatever that is.

Iโ€™ve stated it before (and used to mention it when I did a VL at UCL) - librarianship has shifted during my career. My FT PG course at Aber (funded with a bursary) was pretty diverse over 30 years ago (by most measures of diversity).

Just seen a Boards of Canada reference from @silversprite.bsky.social and Iโ€™m back in a very happy part of my life.

WorldCat.org WorldCat.org is a global catalog of library materials. You can search for books, music, video, articles and much more at libraries near you.

Whilst the British Library recovers its services, WorldCat (www.worldcat.org) will let you see a lot of what is in the BL, as well as other libraries where you can get hold of things in the meantime.
